You want to be a comedian? Every good comedian knows how to gauge audience and mood. To know what jokes will or will not work. This? This ain't a comedy thread. It ain't a clown. It isn't here to amuse you.

well there's the dumb joke thread...i've gotten a yuk or two there. there's also that thread that implies higher education is indoctrination for the left.

 

Yeah but timing is everything. Funny works when the mood is right. You can't go from serious serious serious and then derail it with a misplaced joke. It just doesnt work. It would have worked if things were relatively light and there was some levity.

Didn't happen. Basin seems chastened though. I'm sure he will be better next time.

I'm guessing people know this already but the original was from the Rashid-ad-din in the chapter on Genghis Khan. Supposedly, he asked one of his advisors what is best in life. The answer was some nonsense about hunting with falcons. Genghis then gave the correct answer:
