Apparently he only had a handgun. Probably why the resource officer was able to respond. And why there were not more casualties.

Either way if the officer/guard shot him I'm sure that prevented further injuries. Good for the guard!

Absolutely, but this shows why semi-automatics have got to be banned.

At Seattle Pacific, my sister school, a gunman was tackled when he had to reload a shotgun. Countless lives were saved.

Absolutely, at the very least, banning semi automatic weapons would immediately save many lives.

    Yes, good for the guard.

But we should not be a situation where we have to put guards with guns in schools in the first place, or in a position which that guard has to shoot someone to keep him from shooting other people.

This isn’t a victory. Considering “well, at least only two people died instead of 17 people” as a victory just shows how pathetic and disgusting our culture has become.

Do Japanese schools have armed guards? Finnish schools? Argentine schools? Australian schools?

He's actually quite right. Things are not going well because of the massive violation of the Fifth Commandment - which is "Thou shalt not kill".

"Honour thy father and mother" is the Fourth Commandment. Nice to see these fundamentlist nutcases knowing their Scripture...

I wonder what Kevin Swanson thinks of those of us who are parents and who support the Parkland kids 100 percent.

“Wait...I didn’t mean honor those fathers and mothers, only the ones who agree with me!”

    THIS!!!

In other news, angered by new restrictions placed on them by YouTube, gun enthusiasts are now posting their videos on PornHub. Ammosexuals, indeed!

Good quote I found from Eden Cheung:

If bullying caused school shootings, you would see trans shooters, queer shooters, female shooters, POC shooters.

Bullying does not cause school shootings; entitlement does. And white boys are the most entitled demographic by far.

Obviously, not the white men on this thread who stick up for equality. Also, it should be noted that my trauma counselor at the women's shelter told me that she believes that most men are good, and only a minority are not. I'm just adding that to prevent this post from sounding misandrist.

Thousands of us marched this morning, taking up an entire street, with sleet coming down.

A couple of kids spoke who were fourth graders at Sandy Hook and have moved down here since, along with a professor who lost his cousin at Parkland. One thing he said was, “The day I am asked to carry a gun into my classroom is the last day I consider myself a teacher.” Same here, sir.

There were also volunteers registering voters. Both US Senators from NC are big NRA pawns.

I couldn't go out to the march in LA because I have to be at my apartment all day waiting for a maintenance person :(

But I've been watching coverage on TV.

I really hope people come to their senses because of the publicity of this. Of course I won't believe it until I see it actually happen on a national scale, in congress. Which let's face it, won't happen with a Republican congress or pass with a Republican President. That's just the reality. So I will not be voting for any Republicans in the midterms even though I'm an independent and normally consider all candidates. It's just too important a moment and too important to get things done. (Never mind the dearth of Republicans who have actually stood up to Trump and his corruption and vileness).

At the March for Our Lives event in Columbia, SC this morning:

We started some 8 or 9 blocks north of the State House and then marched down to the State House grounds itself.

Here's the crowd at the start:

And here we all are at the State House at the march's conclusion:

And no, I can't read the first part of that guy's sign either. :p Sorry for the somewhat shabby quality of the pictures, but it gives you a good idea of the scale of the event. Great turnout today in the capital city of an otherwise very red state!

Re: AG Obama's picture. From the pieces I can read it appears to be a list of dates and casualty counts from other shootings.

Unfortunately, that has to be so small to list just a portion of the incidents of mass gun violence. Sad.

Yes these kids are my heroes.

This is so, so, so important. Parliamentary democracy is a powerful tool against NRA, or any lobbyist for that matter.

Just got back from the DC march. It's one of the best marches I've been to in terms of organization. The scale of it was massive -- full capacity crowds all the way down Pennsylvania Ave, which is no small street. They had speakers set up all throughout, TV viewing screens, tons of volunteers with water and directions. Pretty impressive. You don't see this level of sophistication outside an inauguration, usually.

The kids were really impressive too. Very passionate, very articulate. And there were kids everywhere in the audience.

One of my favorite moments was hearing a younger kid say in awe: "wait, kids organized this?"

    Yes, yes they did.

If you didn't almost get crushed to death, I'd dare say it was better run than innaugurations :p

Glad you were able to go.

One of my favorite signs at the Charlotte march was “Expelliarmus!”

For those of you who have lived under a rock and not read Harry Potter, that’s the disarming spell.

Yeah, they actually had a causeway for police and emergency vehicles and open paths for people to leave at will instead of just being smashed into each other. This, without a Congressional committee to organize it!

...actually perhaps that's why it was so well organized.
