JCC guys it's almost christmas

I have had to work Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's day (my daughter's birthday), along with just about every other holiday for several years.

When my son was born in 2013 and the company that I'd been working at for many years set me to work both Christmas Eve and day despite my tenure, I finally had enough and quit during the holiday week (yes because they were a terrible company and I didn't care about burning bridges with them--but mostly because my second job was already treating me better and had promoted me along with a nice raise in pay). Within that same week, nearly ten other tenured employees quit or walked out to leave this company hamstrung during the holiday insanity.

That said, Christmas is kind of a big deal in my household too.


Though I might have to work on those four holidays again this year, at least it'll be for a better company.

 

I suppose you'd better sabotage it again, eh?

Local Sainsbury's supermarket had an aisle that was half Christmas (mostly candy and Advent calendars but not the Lego one) and half Halloween when I was there on Sunday.

 

I had an experience like that last year at a Wal-mart near my house. One shelf was full of giant blow-up Santa Clauses and the shelf next to it was full of vampires and zombies. It was weirdly hilarious.

 

I'm not a fan of the run up to christmas. Everyone goes bat**** mental. Christmas day is great. I get absolute peace and quiet while everyone else does some weird masochistic ritual of overeating in the company of people they despise.

Supposedly, Tim Burton got the idea for Nightmare Before Christmas when he saw a store taking down their Halloween decorations and putting up their Christmas ones, and wondered what a movie about the clash of holidays would be like.

I can't wait for Christmas because it means I can play my vinyl Charlie Brown Christmas record while I decorate the tree. It's pretty fun actually.

 

Yes, I know all that. I mean, it's the same with Easter. These are just days chosen to use as markers of celebration. There's no special significance to Dec. 25th as far as the life of Christ. Doesn't matter really.

 

I wish more people thought this way!

I do have to say, I resent seeing Halloween themed things here. I'm sure the Brits feel the same.

 

So the Church has distorted Winter Solstice and Churchified it (= put Christ in it).
Americans have distorted Sinterklaas and Americanized him (= made him fat and misspelt).
Something that was once one logical celebration is now three unrelated ones bundled together.
So why don't we just pile Halloween and Valentine's Day on top of it? Super Christmas!

 

I'll probably be alone on christmas lol. don't really have a social life right now and my family hates me.

not into christmas music but 808s and heartbreak always gives me that nice winter vibe and it matches my #sadboy life.
