ST Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma) in Episode VII

I don't think it would be the contracts since the other actors have been aware of their casting. And I doubt either have small roles. I would like to find out the reason it took so long and was such a secret though.

Good point. John Boyega certainly knew about the casting and said it was being kept secret.

 

Don't see any big scandle here... most likely its they where rushing at least one of the roles casting but then word of the first table read leaked so they announced the cast early of who was signed. After that they had plently of time for further casting hunting, and JJ filming some scenes in the UAE didn't speed up further casting announcements any. Hence the month delay between casting.

Heck, they might have had one of them signed a bit ago but where just waiting on the other so they could announce two females at the same time to shut up some critics.

 

Perhaps she'll be a wookiee with sword fighting abilities. A Jedi wookiee!

I only hope this doesn't mean she's about to bite the dust on GOT though (no spoilers please!)

Pretty much this. If I hadn't been sat down I'm certain I would've done an Ashlee Simpson-esque jig.

 

No spoilers on her book characters fate... just filming schedules of the two franchises.

Star Wars is rumored to be filming from June to August. Game of Thrones films from July to December. They do interfer with one another but not by too much. Plus Gwendoline's character is moving more and more north, so odds are she'd film September through October maybe early November for most of her scenes.

 

I mean, Lupita was rumored for months. So while her casting is awesome, it was predictable. Gwen came out of nowhere and was just such an unexpected and wonderful surprise!

Maybe she's the Chewbacca to the new trio. No necessary a wookie, but the big and strong person of the group.

Age-wise I think she's OK for playing Luke's wife. But at 6 foot three, she would tower over Mark.

My gut feeling is that her exceptional height was part of the reason she was cast. Villain?

 

age wise, she's way too young. She's what, 35? Mark is 62. Don't think it works, especially if Gleeson is their kid. Unless, she only appears as a force ghost Then age or height wouldn't matter

 

That's what I'm thinking. And a cool scary one like that witch hopefully!

 

If the Lupita Nyong'o = Asajj Ventress rumors are to be believed AT ALL then I wonder if Christie could Mother Talzin.

 

I agree, I think her height is definitely a factor in why she was chosen. And hey, I want Luke to have a wife, but honestly I don't see it being Gwendoline.

I think she may be my favorite casting.

She could easily play an Admiral Daala figure.

 

I think the reason we heard about this casting today is to distract from the OTHER big spoiler news that happened today. Maybe a form of damage-control.

 

I don't watch GoT, and I can't recall having seen anything else with Gwendoline in it, so from that perspective I've got no clue what to expect in terms of her acting abilities, etc, for Episode VII. Glad to see another female added to the cast.
