This is looking very cool guys.
We're all really excited about this project. And everone thinks Dingo is a great choice.
So outside of the 12 freaks who care about JC history...how much traffic do we expect this hot new forum to get?
I think more people than would care to admit it have an interest in the history of this place.
But as long as they don't care to admit it they can't be counted, no?
I'm not sure it matters how many view the thread. If the volunteers are happy to comple the threads and MS is happy to provide the forum, then its a fun project for all involved, that hopefully other users will gain some pleasure out of. Its not as though its costing us anything to do, after all.
All are counted.
And here we were totally planning to put some DA originals in there. That in itself will draw half the forum regulars.
I think we should treat this as an archive/library rather than a "forum" per se. So traffic won't necessarily be a reason to have it. Of course much of this will be discussed as we go forward.
If nobody actually reads it then it's pointless busy-work that achieves no end.
But if just one person learns something yadda yadda yadda.....
I think that far more than those who go crazy for JC history will be interested.
We must put out free lemonade for everyone.
I know that, speaking for myself, I've frequently caught myself looking through the JC History threads, old Comms threads, etc, on days when I have nothing better to do. I know that this secures my status as an ubernerd, but I wouldn't be surprised to see others who feel the same way.
Sometimes I look at the last page of a forum to see how far back the threads go.
I've done a little bit of that.
deltron's top 100 JCC threads may not have gotten many votes (I wouldn't be surprised if many didn't vote just because they didn't know where to find great old threads), but it did get people reading and enjoying JC history. Rogue1-and-a-half's "Recollections" thread had similarly positive response from considerably more users than "nobody." That's just going by people who posted. Who knows how many "lurkers" those threads had.
There's interest in JC history.
I have to admit that I have never understood the interest in JC history, but I always thought I was in the minority with that opinion. Even if the forum doesn't get a lot of traffic or whatever, eh. I mean, we still have SciFi3D, don't we? That gets like one post a decade.
They are a close second to fannypacks, yes.
You know, before that post I reckon I'd gone over a month without someone mentioning fannypacks. Gotta be a record.
I love you, you know.
Am I the only one (mind you, I haven't read through this whole thread) who thinks this is a horrible idea?
I had just gotten over the fact that all of the good 3SA threads are gone.
Mostly thanks to a single person who refused repeated attempts to turn off the auto-prune, and who didn't see the point in retaining old stuff.
I'd kinda hoped it had all disappeared by accident.
In regards to the question over time-frame, I would be surprised if it took much more than 2-3 weeks at the most to get things going.
I think quite a few 3SA threads were transfered over the PT?
Red? I'm disappointed in you, Matto.
... cool kids wear crimson.
No they don't
