A Halloween get-together sounds fine, but it may have to be the weekend before for me. I have to work Halloween day until 5pm. And, I don't have kids so I don't do the mall thing, but the prior weekend may be better.
And, Arian, don't feel bad I don't have a costume either. Well, not yet anyway.

The 30th would probably be better for me as well. I just won't be able to stay out too late as I am scheduled to work the next day if the library is open.

    which Hermonie?

nothing unoriginal about halloween unless you buy a fixed costume... are you going to make it yourself?

Hey! There's nothing unoriginal about buying a fixed costume. Some people may not have the time, resources, talent, or wherewithal to create their own costumes. If they resort to the prepackaged costumes, or say, even renting one, it is no less a love of a costume.

Just a sec while I get off my soapbox.

Okay. That said, those kids that just run around in their shirts and jeans sporting a rubber mask of some kind and that's it? Now that's unoriginal and bordering on insulting.
    :D

Actually, what I'd love to put together would be a Quidditch costume. I've seen SithVixen's quidditch costume (on the net, not in person) and have drooled with envy.

    Maybe next year...

unoriginal bob is doing the same as everyone else. putting your own twist on it makes it original. When I was searching for images of medusa online I found 18 photos of 18 different women in the exact same costume and not a single one did anything to make it "their own", to me that is a bit unoriginal.

Not having time to make something so you buy a store bought costume does not make something original. And doing something unoriginal doesn't mean that you don't enjoy dressing up. There is a big difference there. Buying a french maid costume and then being a vampire french maid-thats original.

But I guess I have a different point of view-I have yet to wear in my 28/29 years of life a pre-packaged costume and have no plans too either.

Ahhh, I now see what you mean by unoriginal.

Buying a pre-packaged costume doesn't necessarily equate being unoriginal. Doing nothing but just wearing the costume, and looking like every other <insert character here> makes it unoriginal.

Well, I don't know if I still completely agree with that. I, too, have a different perspective on that one. Being a dad, you see all these kids going around, with many of them using the same costume, but you know that underneath each of those same costumes lurks a unique child. That's what makes it original for me. But I do understand the context of 'original' the way you mean.

Then again, this is all a moot point, I suppose. Julie and I refuse to use store bought costumes for the kids (or for ourselves). Jonathan - Ewok, Buzz Lightyear, Peter Pan, Luke Skywalker (RotJ). Matthew - Yoda. This year? Don't know yet. I think we're making both of the boys jedi costumes so that they can also use them at C3.
