Yeah, people still play it, but not in staggering amounts. But I always managed to find a game more often than not. Too bad some people just quit right out of the door when they "size" up the opposition...though at this point there are simply way too many generals running around the place. :(

People used to ragequit even when the game was new. Me and my friends would usually dominate and as soon as enemy teams started to lose territory, they would all quit.

So one friend and I decided on a way to kill opposing teams almost instantly. We did our own Convenant take on the warthog rush tactic. Basically, one of us would be the Arbiter and the Prophet. We would do only first-level upgrades and then march to an enemy's base together. We never lost and we destroyed countless teams before they could ever develop their first units.

A lame tactic, admittedly, but after dealing with warthog rushes and ragequitters, we needed some payback.

Interesting tactic that, I'll definitely try that next time I go back to HW. Me, I usually focus (more often than not unsuccesfully) on turtling 'til I develop enough super units to do a rush. There's something magnificent in a massive Hawk airstrike decimating an entire army...unless that army happens to have one or two Scarabs and an equally massive fleet of Vultures waiting for you, your partners aren't around or otherwise quit on you and the other enemy teams destroy your bases while you're dying on the other side of the map. I'm a Prophet player myself. I had an opponent who used the Prophet to rush my base and then constantly leader-teleport hunters into my base to keep the pressure on. I was totally caught with my pants down.

And now I've copied that strategy. :p

This was an additional part of our strategy. While the Arbiter distracted our opponents, the Prophet would teleport units in to the base to keep up the pressure.

Also, we learned that Scarabs are a waste of time, especially if you're going against Cutter(or whoever it is that drops ODST and MAC blasts).

Man, ODST were my favorite units in that game.

I have to say the story in Reach really let me down. The single player was fun, but I do not think they did enough to make the game that much better. Halo 3 is still my favorite.

The game's story's not so bad, though it really irks me how the game and the novel FALL OF REACH are so seriously at odds now. I was browsing the novel the other day and as far as it is concerned everything was peachy keen on Reach before it was first assaulted and then fell in one day, the fateful date of 8/30/2552, whereas the game prolongs the battle for over a month before culminating on that same date. I thought the revised version of the novel was supposed to address these differences but apparently that isn't the case.

If you're playing as a Covie vs. Covies, you'll find that Scarabs are very efficient since the Covenant air power isn't as effective as the UNSC's. And as I've witnessed before -- and as recently as last night -- there's nothing as devastating as an enemy you've not attacked early on and you've allowed it to, say, build one Scarab protected by an ever growing cloud of Engineers constantly repairing it as it decimates your base alongside the enemy leader, who by being there allows for more Engineers to directly 'port there in case one or more are destroyed by the defenders. And if you've allowed that same enemy to build yet another Scarab, well then, fuhgeddabout it.

As frustrating as that might be, that's one of the things I enjoy when playing Halo Wars, since watching these tactics unfold are awesome, making you rethink your own tactics over and over again.

I will be glad to have some new maps to play on. I think one is an invasion map, along with a big team/new forgeable map, and the last looks like a smaller swat/4v4 map. All in all Reach needs some new maps to keep it alive.

No kidding, at this point I'm sick to death of the 5 maps Reach shipped out with. Ok, it's not 5, but far too little. The most damning thing about them is that all non-Forgeworld maps were taken straight out of the campaign, and they're not the best multiplayer maps (with the exception of the Ivory Tower remake).

Ahem...well...for reasons ranging from despair at Amazon's apparent mucking up with an order, I've ended up with two copies of the Reach soundtrack. So...if anyone hasn't picked it up yet and wants that extra copy, PM me and you'll get it. First one to respond will be the lucky winner.

On the subject of the new map pack I really wish the Anchor 9 map was Invasion as well. I really think they should just release an Invasion map pack. The 4 (soon to be 5) maps just aren't enough.

Yeah, three new maps right now are nowhere near enough. Invasion needs new maps in a hurry (at least two more). And I'm not talking about community maps. Forge World objects and maps leave a lot to be desired.

Two of my friends bought it: Mike and Bill. Mike hated it and sold it to Dave. Bill hated it and returned it to GameStop for credit towards his purchase of Fable 3. Dave plans on returning his copy and use it as credit towards his purchase of Black Ops.

I don't know what's so bad about it, but at least among my group of friends, Call of Duty is all they play.

but at least among my group of friends, Call of Duty is all they play.

I think that answers your unspoken question about why they hated it. I think a lot of COD players decided to give Reach a try because the new features made it sound like it was a sort of future COD/MW/what-have-you. Some zealous CODers hated it outright because they prefer their glitchy, crappy COD. Other CODers decided to keep at it, grinded through it mindlessly and thought they maxed out their rank at Lt. Col G3 or otherwise couldn't/wouldn't wait for the rank cap to be lifted and went back to their precious COD. And even some die hard Halo 3 fans hate it because it doesn't play just like the game they've beaten to submission in the past 3 years. I guess that, ultimately, you have to be a true fan of the series in order to "love" or otherwise like it. I know I like it and I can't see myself going back to Halo 3 unless just to reply that campaign.

Well I'm glad that they got rid of the rank cap for online finally. I just bought Carter's helmet. Now if only I can save up for the rest of his gear.. [face_plain]

Yeah, the prices for customizations are ridiculous, since each will set you back about a month's worth of gained credits. I think this gimmick is only worthwhile to those...dedicated players that will grind 24/7 for the next 100 years for just about every piece of armor customization they can afford.

It isn't that hard. Challenges and commendations are the key. I have done all but three of the challenges since the game was released (all weekly challenges), and I have a whole bunch of commendations at the Gold level.

Also never quit games. It isn't that hard to get a lot of credits.

Possibly dead, just like the rest of his team. Though at the end he was escorting Halsey to CASTLE base to preserve at least some bit of canon from the novels, since Master Chief didn't stumble upon him on First Strike, I guess it's safe to sat that at some point after dropping Halsey off the Covies showed him how much they didn't like his cooking.

It would be interesting if Bungie decided to release an additional campaign mission that tells what happens to Jun and Halsey.

I finally got the "A Monument To All Your Sins" achievement... To get the achievement you must complete the campaign on Legendary, alone.

I don't think I ever want to play the campaign ever again.[face_plain]

Aw man, matchmaking space combat would've been so awesome. I'm hoping that they can revive the feature somehow, and make it DLC.

Not that different from any of the other Legendary campaigns. I beat all the others on Legendary by myself.
