Steve gets that itch. The one that tells him he's been standing still too long. "I'm with Carl. Let's just roll on in and deal with the traps as they pop up, as normal. We aren't going to find any sitting around here."

ColdFire: I'd just like to make a quick mention. You seem to be slipping back and forth between 2nd Person and 3rd Person writing styles. I'd like to point out that RPing in this forum is typically done in the third person style.

For example, you wrote: Steve gets that itch, which is a second person styling.

The proper styling would be something such as: Steve was getting that itch, or Steve got that itch.

Just a little heads up for you. :)

Maya Yubari joined the rest of the Spartans, after her physical. She had been mildly wounded during their last exercise, and had been ordered to report to the medical bay for further examination. The appointment had taken longer than expected, but she still managed to join them before they entered the course completely.

Victor turned to his his fellow Spartans.

"Perhaps we should proceed in smalls groups, or even pairs? We have no idea what lies ahead. Why risk all of our lives?"

Carrie turned to him and nodded in agreement. They looked to the rest of the Spartans.

Kai jumps from the tree as the next conversation rolls in. His rifle was getting a little too heavy, he wasn't built like the rest of them. Kai had speed, and accuracy...He could find a btter weapon.

Strolling over to the small firearms cache, he drops the rifle, but picks up a 12 gauge shotgun. Tac-12, he thinks to himself, How cool?

Checking the guns status he quickly loads it and walks to the rest of the group.

"Victors right, pairs would be good. I'm sure when the UNSC get's us going on real mission's they aren't going to put us all as big groups. I volunteer to go with a sniper, they will need a little close-range support."

OOC: Actually, I think you mean I'm slipping between past and present tense. Second person would be something like Steve, you're getting that itch aren't you? As if I was talking to him. I'm consistantly using third person. But I do see now how I am slipping between past and present tense. I'll try to stick to past tense.

As Carl began to walk down the path again, he was joined up by Steve. Just as they were about to walk down once more, Victor spoke up. Carl turned around to focus on his group.

"Perhaps we should proceed in smalls groups, or even pairs? We have no idea what lies ahead. Why risk all of our lives?" Victor said. Carl nodded to himself. It would be smart. Going alone might be foolish, and going as as an entire group would be dumb. Carl was going to go along with Steve anyway, if the others hadn't followed. His thoughts were interrupted by Steve speaking.

"Small groups are good with me, who wants a partner with explosives?" Steve asked. Carl went over to Steve and stood next to him. "I'll go with you. I'll take care of anything in semi long range, while you can take care of any turrets we might encounter. Hit 'em in their blindspot, as I give you cover. How 'bout it?" Carl asked, as he waited for Steve to give him an answer.

Does not qualify as a post. If you're going to post make it a worthwhile read, otherwise, don't waste our time with one-liners.

I've noticed several RPers who happen to have the bad habit of making a little post, with no detail. Please, fix it. [face_plain]

Victor and Carrie
Obstacle Course
[blockquote]
Victory slung his sniper over his shoulder, as Carrie did with her Battle Rifle. They fell in line with one another, and pushed their way through the underbrush behind Carl and Steve, who had decided they we're going first. When they broke through they immediately dropped to the ground and started to crawl. They knew better than to trust Mendez that much.

Victor checked his surroundings. Ahead was a wall, with many handholds, but a very limited number of footholds. It was obvious that teamwork was encouraged, so Victor's thoughts of being the first out of the course immediately passed, as they always did. I'm fine with teamwork, anyways, he thought to himself. Beyond the wall, he couldn't tell what laid ahead, if anything.

Directly in their path was some netting, with what looked like auto-turrets to either side, raised above the netting. Victor unslung his sniper, and took aim at the first turret. He pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. His ammo meter read full. It appeared Carl and Steve were having the same problems with their weapons too. Realization dawned on Victor instantly.

"Carl, Steve, Mendez rigged the weapons, forget them, we'll go in without them. Look at the turrets, they're positioned higher than the netting. We'll have to crawl underneath their range of motion." Carrie turned and repeated the message to the group behind them, Maya and Kai, and told them to pass the message back to the next group to pass through the underbrush."

Victor and Carrie looked forward again, when they heard the sound of weapons-fire. Carl and Steve we're proceeding across the ground, underneath the netting, and the weapons were firing over their heads.

"Mendez is testing our guts, to see if we can conquer gunfire in a heated situation." Carrie muttered, and Victor nodded his agreement, and the two of them went forward.

OOC: Rayson, i do not mean to be a stickler or anything, but ColdFire has no choice but to post small like that, none of us can post a big descriptive peice of art. I don't mean to critisize your GM-ing style, but as long as your leading us by the nose, there isn't much we can do.

Kai watched as the others' guns fired, but didn't discharge any shells. Then Carrie turned to them, "Kai, Maya. Mendez has rigged the weapons, we're going in without them." She said.

Kai dropped his shotgun in the underbrush, and shimmied along in the dirt. Then he heard gunfire. There were turrets firing on the other four in front of them. Kai took a quick look behind him to make sure Maya was still there, she was.

"Maya, tell the group behind us to ditch their weapons, we're going in cold." He turns back to face forward and continues along behind Victor and Carrie.

As everyone else moved forward, Thomas was left alone, without a partner. "Well," Thomas said to himself, "I wanted to work alone, didn't I?"

When news that the weapons didn't work came back, Thomas dumped them, and grabbed a couple of grenades from the ammo drop. "Surely they wouldn't screw with the grenades...we have to have some kind of offense."

Thomas began to walk into the underbrush, and crouched down afterwards. After a couple of minutes, he made his way to the wall, where everyone was. Thomas went to a space in the netting that was away from the others, and attempted to crawl through the netting, when he noticed a non-active turrent on his left flank, through the netting.

"Everyone, fall back! If we go through, there is a good chance that this turrent could tag us!" *points*

OOC: The one liner was an afterthought, I didn't want to make an all OOC post. And if you have a problem with my posting in the future, PM me about it. I don't mind constructive criticism, but this is bogging down the game.

IC: Steve

Steve followed Carl into the obstacle course, gun at the ready. He noted that this obstacle course was nothing new. If anything it was everything old. Mendez had been throwing everything but the kitchen sink at them since day one. What they encounted in this run was probably an amalgamation of all of their training so far.

"Carl, Steve, Mendez rigged the weapons, forget them, we'll go in without them. Look at the turrets, they're positioned higher than the netting. We'll have to crawl underneath their range of motion."

Steve looked at his weapon in disgust and then tossed it off to the side. He opened the bag of explosives and looked at them. Probably just clay. He thinks, then discards that bag as well. Hitting the dirt, he shimmied along the ground under the netting. He could hear the bullets firing off above him, but he didn't hear the ricochets indicating they were hitting near him. So unless they turned to shoot when they were half way through, no problem. Just a few more feet...

"Everyone, fall back! If we go through, there is a good chance that this turrent could tag us!" He heard from behind him.

What now? Steve thinks. He twisted around to look at the turret. Just great. He was confident there was some way of getting through this course. When analyzing a creation, it was important to look at the creator. In this case, Mendez can't want them to fail, so he must have left some way for them to get through, even if it is difficult. Steve slows his advance and looks for a way to bypass the turret without activating it.

Raymond blinked, as everybody suddenly began to pair up around him. He had been in a hazed state, daydreaming about the thrill of hearing a mongoose engine start up.

"Damn me and my slow thinking!" Raymond mumbled as he walked towards the netting. He heard that the weapons had not worked a short time earlier, and had discarded his pistols.

He heard a yell of, "Everyone, fall back! If we go through, there is a good chance that this turrent could tag us!" and quickly doubled back to the ammo pile. He dug through it for something useful, and found a pair of high-powered binoculars.

Raymond put them up to his eyes, and looked for the signature glint of a Mongoose front bumper light when in the sun, and saw it.

Unfortunately, it was at least three football fields away. Which meant he had to go through the netting, and whatever else was ahead.

He shouted towards the other groups, "I saw a mongoose, about three football fields away. If I could get it, I could drive a sniper to the other side of the course, so then can take out the auto turrets from behind!"

"I saw a mongoose, about three football fields away. If I could get it, I could drive a sniper to the other side of the course, so then can take out the auto turrets from behind!", Thomas heard his old friend, Kan-Kilgar say. Instantly, Thomas began walking towards him, and fills him in. "I was wondering if you were going to show up, mate. I was getting worried."

"The only problem with your plan is, the weapons aren't working. Didn't you get the news? So even if we did manage to get to the other side of the course, assuming we survived all of the traps set out, we would still be unable to do anything concerning the turrents."

Thomas begins pacing back and forth. "Do we have a weapons specialist on our team?" Thomas asked aloud to everyone in the immediate vicinity.

Master Chief Petty Officer, Spartan 117; Spartan IIIs
The Obstacle Course
[blockquote]
Every Spartan on the field stopped. Those that were reaching the wall, those under the netting, and those in between. Every one of them stopped. They all watched, as the wall in front of them crumbled to the ground, revealing a timer, which everyone of them could read clearly. It read 05...04...03...02...01...

Everyone one of them swallowed for the last second, and waited for the impending explosion.

Nothing happened.

CPO Mendez stepped from behind the timer and knocked it to the ground. When it hit the ground, every Spartan cursed themselves. Nothing but a large clock taped to a very convincing piece of cardboard.

"So," Mendez barked, "What have we learned?" None of the Spartans answered. Mendez cleared his throat. "Well?"

A deep, battle-hardened voice could be heard from behind Mendez, "Never stop moving, never stop looking, never stop adjusting, and most certainly never give up. Besides that, you shouldn't convince yourself that you're out of options. For example," The Master Chief gestured behind them. "What do you see?"

Behind them we're two Titanium A barriers. There was evidence that they had been buried in the dirt. Upturned soil, dirt marks on the metal. They had obviously been pushed up out of the ground. Most likely caused by the destruction of the wall. Every Spartan cursed themself again.

"Had you not frozen, had you kept your cool, you may have noticed your chance for safety from would could've been the end of the Spartan III program."

"I hope this lesson is clear, Spartans," Mendez barked, "because it's one of the most important lessons you'll ever learn." Mendez turned and walked off the field, followed closely by the doctor and Spartan 117.

Victor turned to the rest of his teamates, and said to them, "So who else feels stupid?"

Every one of them acknowledged him. Victor nodded, "Anyone with left over grenades, return them to the cache at the beginning of the course." He turned to Carrie, "Mendez didn't give any standing orders. Do you suppose we're free to go?"

She nodded, "I don't see why not."

The Spartans dispersed, and returned to their quarters in Reach's top training facility.
