"AUSSIE" Leigh heard the call over the din of fighting as the small delta squad poured fire into the covenant that were beginning to advance on the fallen wraith, he turned to see the radio operator scuttle across to him "Aussie, they cant say when were getting re-enforced" he said as the two men knelt in the cover of a smoking crater infront the fallen wraith. Aussie wiped a grime covered hand over his equally grime covered face "Bloody poges" he said with feeling "Right can you find out if they cant tell us ho to fly the bloody thing?" he ask, the radio man nodded and slapped Aussie on the shoulder as he got on the net again. Several minutes later he gave Aussie the thumbs up, Aussie called out, fall back, back to the wraith, take up firing positions onboard were lying the ugly bugger out of here!". With smooth economical movements the soldiers peeled off while still covering their archs and pushed back to the wraith.

In minutes they were onboard, the others taking up the emplaced guns on the troop ramps and Aussie and the radio man in the cockpit. With the radio man relaying instructions from intel and alot of swearing Aussie slowly pulled the ship into the air, finding the weapon controls he unleashed a sustained bust into the covenant panicking to the fore of the ship as it turned and began to climb. Aussie grabbed the hand set from the radioman as the ship climbed into the night "This is Delta 43, we are air moblie in the wraith, and awaiting orders".

IC: Navy Lt. Commander, Anthony Raymond Estiphon. Navy Lt. Sutton. Marine Force Recon Second Lieutenant Michael 'Red' Bastin.

"I swear Sutton, you've got 9 lives," said Etiphon as they were racing back towards the fighting still going on at the Fortville Pike Rd. overpass. They'd seen the flash of the Covenant Wraith's Fusion Bottle as its magnetic bottle winked out and caused such mayhem to those exposed to the intense heat rays that it radiated back to as far away as Mount Comfort Exit. When it faded they packed up they're Mortar Team, Navy Corpmen and those still deemed fit for duty. The rest were sent back to Indianapolis for medical attention or in body bags, if there was anything left of them. Estiphon noticed that Suttons jaw line was a bit tight, he'd lost most of his men when the Spirit shuttle flipped and crashed while they were engaged in fighting the Covenant Hunters at Mount Comfort who'd brought the retreating convoy of Marines and Indiana National Guards to a stop...

OOC: Will post more from this scene with Estiphon and Sutton before weekend's over.

Location: The left flank point of Contact with Covenant Enemy Forces 20 Minutes later.

IC: As Marine Lt. Michael Red Bastin of Force Recon 17, Navy Lt. Commander Anthony Estiphon of DEVGRU, Navy Lt. Sutton of DEVGRU.

Lt. Michael "RED" Bastin and his platoon rolled up and found a Slaughter had taken place. The carnage was sickening. Red counted 32 bodies that he could make out. There were others that he wasn't sure about. A hummer pulled out from behind a nearby farm house and approached the wreckage of the foreward scouts that went ahead of the main body of Olsen's tank battalian.

"I think it's time for that bigger fly swatter I've been talking about," said Red.

"Sir. They hit us hard and fast before most of us could even think of disengaging," said the PFC driving the Hummer.

Red thought that over and spat out some Beachnut that he'd been chewing.

"They're learning how we fight. If they're smart enough to start applying our tactics against us then they're smart enough to continue along that train of thought. Maybe even improve along that way of fighting. We're going to have to rethink our approach to this counter attack," said Red. Red turned towards his radioman as he came trotting up.

"Sir. SOCOM reports that Delta 43 has acquired a covenant Wraith Tank and are sending the them information they've acquired on how to pilot it. They want to know if we can use some help from Delta 43. If not, they'll be having the enemy tank temporarily transported back to Indianapolis for analyisis before having it relocated elsewhere.

"Duh! Can we use it! Hell yeah!" Red yelled. The radioman relayed back to SOCOM a 'laundered' reply.

"Sir, they want you to use it to capture more Wraiths if at all possible," said the radioman.

Red rolled his eyes at that and took the mic. Ops. This Lt. Michael Bastin of Force Recon 17. We will comply with that order as best we can-Over.

"Very well Lieutenant Bastin. One Covenant Wraith tank coming up. Ops. out."

Just then six Hummers approached from out of the North across a cornfield south of N400 west Rd.

"That's got to be Devgru," said Red.

IC:SGT Leigh "Aussie" Smith sniper Delta Force/ Aust. SAS

Aussie was starting to enjoy himself, after SOCOM got the instructions to Delta 43 they shuffled around the tight confines of the Wraith and Aussie now found himself in the commanders compartment, with the others wedging themselves into any position they could. They had gone through some trial and error but the Special Forces soldiers had quickly come to grips with the basics of the machine and were now powering towards their next objective. They were given the location of a covenant ambush on a marine scout force where their troops were in need of some heavy muscle. The interior was a hive of activity as the soldiers called information to each other, instructions were passed from the radio and weapons were charged. Aussie could see from the covenants form of radar infront of him the shapes of the SF task force that they were to rendevous with.

With a howl of the wraiths powerful repuslor engines Aussies Wraith cruised manacingly over the breast of the final hill between them and the new force. The wraith stalked towards the collection of up armoured hummers and slowly came to a halt next to them, with a light hum the command hatch flipped open and Aussie popped his dirt and blood covered head out into the night air to regard the command vehicle of the new force, "G'day fella's anyone order one bloody big tank?" he said with a wide grin "Point us at 'em and we'll drive this up where only airport customs will go!" he finished grinning down at the assembled troops.

Military Occupational Specialty (MOS): Special Operations Force/Black Ops.
    Rank: Captain
Weapons: FN SCAR-L Assault Rifle, M9A1 Pistol.
Bio: Dirk was a orphan for most of his life. His Mother died in childbirth, and his father was killed on active duty when Dirk was six. The closest thing he had to parents were his Aunt and Uncle who took him in after his Father was killed. As he grew he and his cousin James Endow became close. After Dirk graduated high school he joined the military. From there he began his training for special operations. During his training he became close with three other trainees who would end up becoming his squad mates. Jeremy Farren, Corla Mii, and Aaron Lars. Jeremy was commander, with Dirk as his second, Corla was next, then last was Aaron. They were as close as siblings. They went on many missions together as a squad. Until an operation went sour. During the mission they were ambushed. They were able to escape, but they were one member short. Jeremy had gone down during the fire fight. As his last act before death Jeremy sacrificed himself so that the rest of the squad could get away.

With their leader gone Dirk was promoted to Captain, and put in charge of the squad. And to replace the missing man James Endow, Dirks cousin was assigned to the squad. The new team had been together for about a year when Dirk and Corla who were the same rank got engaged. Their wedding was planned for a few days after the Covenant struck. With the Covenants first strike their plans were dropped, and the squad was called to active duty. During a mission behind Covenant lines the squad got split up. Dirk and Aaron were just barely able to make it out alive. On the way back to RV Alpha they got commed by Corla, and James. They were pinned down, and were being overwhelmed. Dirk and Aaron rushed there as quickly, and covertly as possible but in the end they were to late. They arrived just in time to see the two of them killed. At that point the war became personal for Dirk.

IC: Navy Lieutenant Commander Anthony Raymond Estiphon, Navy Senior Lieutenant Richard Steven Sutton, Marine 2nd Lieutenant Michael David "RED" Bastin:

Estiphon pulled up with his downsized Team of 24 Seals, 4 Mortar team members, 2 Navy Corpmen and six Hummers with assorted weapons and ammunition. Though they were fit, Red could tell they were digging in on their endurance and stamina. He could see it in their eyes. They were starting to get a little of that haunted look about them. When the Wraith tank came in over the low rise, it got quite a bit more than haunted until Red gave them the all clear concerning their newest arrival.

"G'day fella's anyone order one bloody big tank?" Leigh said with a wide grin "Point us at 'em and we'll drive this up where only airport customs will go!" he finished grinning down at the assembled troops.

When Leigh Smith popped the hatch, showed himself and spoke those charming words, their glassy eyed look started turning into smile lines and good humor. Hope was definately back in vogue. They were tired but they were hungry for a victory of sizable proportions. They'd just been handed a way to get it!

"We need to have a pow wow with Major Olsen on this, so we can co-ordinate that rear end reeming you're suggesting," spoke Lieutenant Bastin as a smile grew on his face. Like magic his radioman stepped up and handed him his set's microphone.

"Redtail this is Bird Dog-Over." Red spit out some of his Beechnut. The juice hit a smoldering pile of something hot and hissed as it was turned into a column of steam like an old fashioned smoke signal.

Lieutenant Michael "Red" Bastin thumbed the mic and answered, "Redtail this is Bird-Dog, we have a rare opportunity presented to us care of Delta 43 and SOCOM. They've moved their captured Wraith to these co-ordinates where covenant Banshees and Ghosts hit your point force of Strykers and Hummers about fifteen minutes ago. They're starting to use our tactics against us mixed with hit and run. One of your foreward point's Hummers survived and broke contact, then when we arrived told us what happened. Delta 43 reports that they are able to locate other Wraith Tanks bunched up north and east of this location by about 2 1/2 klicks. There's farm houses and tree lines around there for cover. SOCOM wants us to capture more of those Wraiths if at all possible. We need to co-ordinate with you to setup a counter ambush from their behind before they can cover their collective rear. We've seen their handy work on our fallen sir. It's not pretty..."

Red gave their co-ordinates and paused.

The Marines' 1st Division's, 1st Tank Battalian had just pulled up and another Marine Force Recon unit had joined the crowd of SF, National Guardsmen and Marines of their assorted units. Observations were made plans were laid and Intel was gathered. Communications were established. More units were starting to move southward out of Michigan and eastward out of Illinois along with much needed artillary units to suppliment Greywolf 3 who until now had been the only artillary unit to successfully bloody the nose of the advancing Covenant Legion that had begun to advance towards Indianapolis. It was desided to attempt a highjacking of the Wraiths bunched up 2 1/2 klicks east north east of their present location in order to fullfill SOCOM's order to capture more Wraiths for analysis by the scientists and engineers. The recently arrived Marine Recon unit was called in to reconoiter the Covenant position and see what they had in store for "adhoc" units that had held them at bay for so long. Since the Covenant Forces had used suprise and ambush tactics much like what had been used against them, it was desided that the sneaky approach would better serve to infiltrate their lines and undermine their next ambush.

Dirk, and three other men marched into the middle of the camp. All the men had grim looks on their faces. Too much war, and not enough sleep. Friends dying all around you. And no way to stop it. This was a look he could never forget, nor would he. At the beginning of the war he was removed from active duty because of the loss of his squad, and two people really close to him. He was forced to just sit while he recovered. At this point in the war everyone was needed. And being emotionally stable he was allowed to return to active duty.

He was assigned two new squad members to replace James, and Corla. Peter Usakalov, and Jason Churning. Peter was a Russian-American. His Father was Russian, and his Mother was American. He spent his first 8 years in Russia, then moved to the states with his Mom when his Dad died. Jason was from South Dekota. He didn't talk much about his past. He doesn't talk much at all for that matter. He was more of a private, and silent man. They were good soldiers. Dirk had seen them on the training field. He just hoped they were just as good on a live battlefield. His Lieutenant, Aaron Lars was also returning with him. The only remaining member of the original squad other then himself.

Dirk slung his rifle over his back, and entered the tent where the Commander was supposed to be. "Captain, Dirk Endow reporting in." He saluted.

"They did this to our recon?" Olsen regarded the red hot scraps of metal and withered flesh.

"Full stop." he said over the net. "Skirmish lines. remaining recce, sweep those woods and that barn and silo. I've a feeling they're not too far. 1st and second tank platoons assume overwatch."

Olsen stood up in the cupola. An ozone bath singed his nostrils. The tang of the plasma was still in the air.

Suddenly he snapped his eyes open. He'd fallen asleep! The non-stop marching and action had taken his toll, and he'd drifted off. He slapped his cheeks furiously to force himself awake, and then switched to the Division 'net on the radio.

"Eden Phoenix, Eden Phoenix, This is Red Tail. We are in dire need of rest, refit, refuel, and everything else we can "re". ETA on any of that? Over."

He clicked off, hoping that there was enough of a lull in interference that the good guys might respond.

If Division was even still there.

IC: Navy Lieutenant Commander Anthony Raymond Estiphon, Navy Senior Lieutenant Richard Steven Sutton, Marine 2nd Lieutenant Michael David "RED" Bastin:

The "Command Tent" turned out to be nothing more than a water repellant tarp and temporary frame for holding what was once a gathering place for friends and neighbors who had stopped in for "swap meet" several days earlier. It came in handy now with the early spring weather still being exceptionally cold. Marine Major Olsen had taken an emergency break after calling in to Eden Phoenix for resupply. He'd left Lt. Commander Estiphon in temporary charge of things until Olsen was up and about in four or when an even greater threat reared its ugly head and required his immediate attention.

Navy SEAL Lt. Commander Anthony Raymond Estiphon of DEVGRU returned Marine Force Recon Captain Dirk Endow's salute.

"At ease Captain. Sorry for the "Adhoc" style that we're operating under but war doesn't care about who does the fighting as long as we're fighting to win. SOCOM has issued me an assignment for you to carry out ahead of the rest of us. We need to see how many oparatives the enemy has up ahead. We are aware of several Covenant Wraith tanks according to the SF unit that captured the one outside. We need a foreward unit that isn't dead on its feet right now who can operate MAV Ordinance and not fall asleep while they're doing it. Your specialist is certified in that area. We need you to move up that way and do a remote observation using the MAV units. When we approach with the 1st Tank Battalian, you are to call in a mortar and artillary strike to take out any Ghosts and other light armored combat vehicles air or ground. Before that happens though, you are to bring in those Micro Air Vehicles and land them on the backs of the personnel operating those Wraiths if at all possible. When they are all comprimised call us in then before we're within their firing range amongst the trees. Call for the artillary and mortar strike just before the rounds come in and hit them blow those little bug bombs riding on the backs of those Elites milling around their Wraith Tanks. Got it?" he asked. "Then if any of the smaller enemy vehicles get clear of the barrage your shooters can take them out. When that is done we'll be back together to capture the Wraiths. Here are instructions that we believe will help on how to bring them up on line, to manuever them and to fire their weapons too, in case you get extra lucky and get to board one of them." Estiphon stood up and spoke. "That is your assigment, Captain. Dimissed," he said as he stood waiting for Endow to salute him so he could return it.

Dirk made mental notes of his orders, objectives, and intelligence. All were very important to a mission. It sounded a lot of stuff for four men, but they were the best of the best. No wimps could get through the training required to do what they do. And the military counted on that.

Dirk stood at ease the whole time. As the Commander finished and stood Dirk snapped to attention. "That is your assigment, Captain. Dimissed," Dirk Saluted. He waited for the commander to finish the salute, and left the tent. Dirk looked around the camp for the rest of his squad. They had set up at the side of the camp at a table. They were busy polishing their weapons, and making sure they had everything.

Dirk headed over to them, and set his rifle on the table. "We've got our orders. Usakalov, get the map." Peter Usakalov silently grabbed the map and set it out on the table. Dirk looked at the map. He pointed to a location on the map, and began to speak. "We've got Intel that there is a contingency of Covenant Vehicles here." Dirk moved his fingers to a place on the map where there seemed to be a path. "We are going to set up an ambush here. Peter and Jason, I want the two of you here, and here. Dirk pointed to two spots on the map on either side of the path. "Stay far enough inside the treeline so that they wont be able to see you, but close enough that you can get a clear shot of anyone that may be missed by the artillery." Dirk pointed to a location designated as a hill next. "Aaron, I want you up there with the MAV's. It overlooks the whole area we are going to be in. Be careful. If you get spotted you are easy pickings. If something goes wrong and you require assistance Peter is here, and will be at your aid in seconds. The two of you are partners on this mission. I've got Jason."

Dirk looked at the squad. "Our primary objective is to take out their vehicle force in that area. Secondary is to grab as many of their vehicles as possible. Seeing as there is only four of us the brass will have to do with four maximum. If you can't grab something that is fine. No use getting ourselves killed over a silly vehicle. Before we leave we are going to receive a crash coarse in drivings wraiths, and Ghosts. When the artillery goes off they are going to scramble. The plan is to force them this way. That way if the artillery misses anyone we can pick them off with our snipers. I will be just over here in the brush to grab one of the wraiths as it goes by. The Brass really wants one of those."

Dirk turned to Aaron. "Command advises that we use the MAV's to take out the pilots of the Wraiths. Attach them to the backs of the Elites without them noticing. And then when we call in the artillery blow them up, taking out the drivers. The Wraiths will probably survive the Artillery, that is why we need to take them out with the MAV's. Well that should cover everything. Get some food, and a couple of hours of sleep. We leave at 0500." Dirk saluted his men, grabbed his rifle, and headed towards the mess tent for some food.

Location: Groom Lake a.k.a. Area 51 (115 miles north of Las Vegas).

Date and Time: 3-11-09, Midnight, Mountain Standard Time.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff had relocated to Groom Lake and were in session with military representatives from Russia, China, Europe, South Africa, Canada, Mexico, Japan, North and South Korea, Brazil, Egypt, Saudia Arabia and Isrial. Others were invited but they had yet to be able to show up due to Covenant interference or due to their inability to access the internet or just plain their unwillingness to participate. Giant digital video screens had been set up for each of the participants in the online meeting.

Marine Brigadier General, Elias T. Brant and Air Force General Curtis W. Stone sat with other members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who'd arrived earlier that day by C-5A Galaxy. Each Nation or-group of nations in Europe's case-had a moderator to direct questions to the proper person to provide the right answer to it. Thus far they had agreed upon the sharing of intelligence, the cross production of ammunition and the cross training and transfering of troops to one another as needed when the Covenant made an increase in its forces numbers and locations. Brant spoke to the assembly through interpretation provided by digital assistance.

"Gentlemen we have a golden opportunity to go far beyond just simply sharing ammunition, training and manpower. We can start by sharing with weapons development as well. If we are to survive as a power to be reckoned with against the Covenant Forces we must learn to think as one power not as a bunch of individuals fighting side by side. We've got to learn the teaching of Gung Ho."

The representatives of China's Government and military nodded in assent then responded.

"General Brant am I correct in assuming that your government is willing to share in its secrets of technology that until now has been reserved only for your government's military?"

General Brant anticipating such a question answered it.

"I'm proposing that we all share in what we have and learn to trust one another in order to defeat the Covenant. We will not prevail as long as we hold back in this proposed strategy. It would simply end our conquest. No single nation will be able to prevail against a strategy of divide and conquer. We have to unite in our efforts on every level or we will fall one by one".

China and North Korea had both-until now-been the hold outs on this one issue. But even the representatives from China had to agree in principal that Brigadier General Brant was quite correct. Their agreement in treaty was quite another thing as their government had given them strict limitations on what they could and could not negotiate on.

"General Brant. I'm not at liberty to negotiate on that specific issue, though personally I can agree with you. I will have to inform my government of this proposal and get back to you."

Brant stifled his frustration and nodded his head at representative Sun.

"Very well then. Let us know if there is any change in your governments position on this issue.

He then put the question to a vote with the other nations while representative Sun was out of the room and online with his superiors. North Korea's Representative Kim abstained from voting on the grounds that it included the technology issue and withdrew with Representative Sun.

It was decided that all four issues would be resolved by entering into treaty and immediately commense with the sharing of Intelligence, the cross production of Ammunition, the sharing of Troops and weapons Developement. They were in complete agreement with all four issues, even China came around to the Generals way of seeing things. Apparently Sun's superiors had changed his orders. Now they could finally move foreward. Information, Cross Production of Ammmunition, Troops and Weapons Technology was to be shared. It was not until two days later that North Korea capitchulated and entered into treaty with the others of the group to share

Gunter stared at the man. "Hey!, We are still alive we can still pull out. While the other battalions are near by or we can go back to the city."

"What city!? There is no city, Greenfield is gone! We are all gonna die in the mud,and now we are gonna go off and march into a city filled with god knows how many Covenant all ready to rip us apart and have us for din-." A plasma bolt caught the corporal in the back.

"Jesus. Move, Move, Move!" Gunter screamed as they ran for the highway. A comet formed up in the sky, "What the-" the ground shook with a great explosion of blue white fire. "Run!"

A little bit up the highway they found a convoy, or, what was left of the convoy, luckily for them their was a working truck, unfortunately the driver and all the occupants were dead. "Jesus, these guys were Special Forces, Rangers by the looks of it. Best of the best." Gunter jumped in the truck. "Get in!" Gunter looked at the sky, "Oh no." Gunter looked at the two purple ships closing in. "Banshees!" two men were caught in the open and melted before him. He only had four men left.

"Go!" someone shouted from behind and Gunter floored it. The ground crackled and the road in front of them glassed over as the pilots strafed the ground in an attempt to end their getaway.

Gunter grabbed the radio. "This is Second Lieutenant Denis H. Gunter we are on the Interstate heading for Greenfield in need of immediate assistance please advise."

"Lieutenant Gunter. This is Second Lieutenent Michael Bastin of Force Recon 17. What is your heading and what is your stituation? Over."

    "Private!" Gunter yelled!
"Little busy LT..." "What do you need? he asked after he sprayed the Banshee with gunfire.
    "Where are we?" Gunter replied
"What!? You're asking me now? In the middle of fir- Jesus." A Banshee swooped into view in a straight line towards the wind shield.
"Launcher up!" Gunter shouted as he kicked out the windshield. He grabbed the launcher and told the private to grab the wheel.
He saw the energy building in the main cannons on the Banshee. "Everybody take cover" everybody ducked as Gunter fired the launcher. The rocket nailed the banshee square on and cause bits of metal to hit the road around them.
"Nice shot LT! And as to your last question, we are currently heading north east towards Greenfield."
"Right." Denis reached for the radio, only to see it was melted from the heat of the launcher firing, "Oh come on! Anyone got COM." Everyone shook there heads "Well then, were on our own."

IC: Navy Lieutenant Commander Anthony Raymond Estiphon, Navy Senior Lieutenant Richard Steven Sutton, Marine 2nd Lieutenant Michael David "RED" Bastin:

    Time: 05:00, 3/12/09.

Location: Farmhouse west of Greenfield, the site of previous contact with Covenant Forces North of I-70 and just west of Fortville Pike Rd., roughly 2 1/2 Kilometers from the Covenant's next ambush site.

The new Black Ops Marine Force Recon Team, was up and heading out to the gathering of Covenant Wraith Tanks with their MAV equipment. The weather was cold and cloudy from the previous night's snow. Several inches had been added to the underlying layers that had partially melted with the previous warm spells. The Green Berets and Sgt. Leigh Smith from the Australian SAS prepared the Captured Covenant Wraith with stores of weapons, ammo and assorted supplies needed for their part of the upcoming mission against the ambush site. DEVGRU was heading north with the Marine Mortar Team from the 1st Battalian, 9th Marines Regiment 'The Walking Dead'. 2nd Lieutenant Michael 'Red' Bastin and his Platoon had been dispatched to investigate the situation with another Recon unit that was in the open and under fire on I-70 heading (what they believed was) east towards Greenfield, ID. In the mean time 1st Marine, 1st Tank Battalian was holding position until the counter ambush was sprung. Greywolf 3 was busy firing and relocating.

OOC: Hear Yea, Hear Yea! Well Gang we've reached the point in Halo TODAY: Crossroads of America where the Covenant has been effectively halted from its dreadful advance against Indianapolis. The best that America and (for that matter) Australia could offer as a stop gap against the mighty Legions of the Covenant sent to crush America's will to fight back was equal to the task. But as with all things, there comes a time when the campaign reaches a kind of stalemate and the war boggs down into a kind of trench-war of sorts; and so it comes time to turn to a new front in our conflict against the Covenant and The Prophet of Hope. Another words true believers, were shutting down Chapter Two of our beloved Halo TODAY series of RPG forums to make way for The New Chapter Three of Halo TODAY! This one is titled Halo TODAY: The Pacific Campaign. Since the start of Halo: TODAY was thought of by Sanctimoneously initially, it only seemed fitting that we have a naval point of view to this ongoing war as the Covenant searches for something that is believed (by the Prophet of Hope) will bring the Covenant one step closer to the Journey taken by the Forerunners or at least bring greater glory to the Prophet of Hope in his personal bid to find where the Forerunners went to, when they left. So join us as we discover together just what it is that is being dug up at the bottom of the Marinaris Trench. A request will be issued to our moderators to close this forum. Then we'll be underway for the new chapter Three of Halo TODAY! I hope to see you all there. Thanks for being a part of this one.
