    Let me see - maybe this:

    -"I want to see my son"
    -"I love my son, it's worth the risk"
    -"I love Leia, and she wanted me to talk to him"
    -"I love my son, I love Leia - the risks are pretty damn high, but it's worth it to get the chance of having my family back together"

    Or a variation of these.

    Parents are willing to do anything for their children, especially when they feel like it's their fault that things went how they did, and that includes putting themselves in danger. You honestly don't think Han knew exactly how dangerous walking out there to meet him halfway was?
