Han's lightsaber skills

It looked like Han knew what to do with the lightsaber.

Did Luke ever teach him a few lightsaber moves, or did Han possibly see a lightsaber in the early days?

 

My hunch is Han figured out how to use it by watching Luke and Ben.

Anyway, I'm sure he knows where the on button is on a saber from seeing it used a couple of times, and it was just a few simple swipes from there on in.

Pressing a button and moving a handle doesn't look too hard. I doubt he could do much in fight, though.

You know I really didn't like Han's little vest in the first movie. Not macho enough.

Luke was able to figure out how to turn it on in ANH, and that was the first lightsaber that he had ever seen. By the time ESB rolls around, Han has probably seen Luke use his several times (the ones that we see, and maybe some others), so I think that Han would have been able to turn one on, cut open a Tauntaun's underbelly, and turn it off by then.

 

I agree, I think that finding the switch wouldn't be too difficult.

 

The way Han acted, it looked like it was his first time holding one.

Actually, it can be difficult at times. I heard that some Jedi position the controls inside the hilt so that only someone with (a) finely tuned force powers and (b) knowledge of where the switch is can use it. Quite handy in case you drop your lightsaber like OB1 in Ep II. Your enemy can't use your weapon against you.

I always thought it was awkward to see Han using a saber
he fumbled with it too it looked like

if I were Luke I'd be like
"NOOOO Kitty! My Lightsaber!"

 

Han is a mechanic, mechanics can figure out how many things work by looking at them. But why even discuss his "skills" we see him slice open the guts of a tauntaun thats it
