Babylon 5 turned 20 last friday. If that doesn't make you feel old then you probably weren't old enough to watch sci fi yet when it was on the air. I don't think it's wrong to say that B5 changed the way sci fi stories were told on tv. No more seasons filled with stand alone episodes where the characters actions had no effect on the world around them. It definitely changed the way fans interacted with the show creators and gave birth to online fandom. And if it weren't for B5 online fandom we of course wouldn't have the modern ubiquitous internet term lurker. Currently doing a rewatch of this series and falling in love with it all over again.
Season 1 is the weakest overall but is important in setting up the characters for whats to come. A few of the eps are stinkers ( like TKO ) but on the whole most are good.
Ok, started watching it from The Gathering, now on ep 4 of season 1, so far so good. Splitting time between watching this and re-watching Battlestar Galactica.
I wish I was watching it again for the first time. Londo and G'kar are still my two favorite characters, I think they steal the the series.
Once you get done with B5 you might want to check out this http://sfdebris.com/videos/babylon5.asp. An opinionated guid to B5. WARNING it's full of spoilers and the opening credit roll use images from future episodes so you will want to avoid it till your done.
One of my favourite shows. I was a teenager when it was first broadcast and I feel incredibly old now, thanks. I'd say series 1 is a teensy bit better than season 5... If only the execs hadn't rushed JMS to finish in S4. Season 5 is still better than the spinoff series Excalibur. I admit I enjoy that one too though.
Yah but at least they got a season 5, not like Farscape that got promised a season 5 then had it yanked by sci fi at the last moment. And at least it wasn't Legend of the Rangers.
Just finished watching the Season 5 Finale . Now on to A Call to Arms, Crusades, and The Lost Tales: Voices in the Dark. This is interesting: The un-released Babylon 5 anime series BTW, Claudia Christian is awesome, we got to hang out with her at the Long Beach Comic Expo this past weekend
Wow you passed me up. But I'm only doing 2 eps per week to drag it out. As for the anime I hate to break it to you but. http://myplace.frontier.com/~longrj2/fluff/B5Anime/bab5_anime_truth.html Except for the way Claudia left B5 she has always been really cool. Every time I see her though I get the urge to watch The Hidden.
Just finished watching it. It makes me remember how much I enjoyed the B5 panels at comic con when the show was on the air. For 5 years there they were the high point of the con and the year sometimes.
