I follow Pol Pot's brand of Maoism. If you don't lose over 20% of your country's population, you ain't doing socialism right.

dilb maybe you were thinking of my love of the film The Trotsky?

like Comrade Stalin's appreciation for the literature of Olesha, i am not above recognition of truly great art, no matter how degenerate its politics. i wasnt kidding earlier itt when i referred to the fascists yukio mishima and louis-ferdinand celine as literary masters. mishima in particular is a favorite author of mine despite being, like, my polar opposite in terms of worldview and even in terms of approach to life

another example would be that i occasionally enjoy the posting of ender_sai ;)

Didn't Cambodia switch to a human skull-based economy under Pol pot's regime, as well?

Do deported Koreans, Romanians, Poles, Latvians, Estonians, Lithuanians, Finns, Germans, Chechens, and various other ethnic minorities in the Russian Em-- sorry, USSR, count? I mean, most of them technically didn't die.

So I'm at my grandfather's place right now and he has Winston Churchill's complete six-book account of the second world war. As I always inevitably do whenever I stay here, I end up taking one of the volumes off the shelf and reading the first page I open to. What page did I open to this time? Why, when Churchill first met Stalin, of course!

This was the most unusual thing I read, taking place during one of Churchill and Stalin's unofficial conferences: "About 1 AM Cadogan arrived with the draft, and we set to work to put it into final form. A considerable sucking-pig was brought to the table. Hitherto Stalin had only tasted the dishes, but now it was half-past one in the morning and around his usual dinner hour."

Stalin's dinnertime was at an hour or more past midnight? wtf?

There was also this, from earlier that night: "Presently there appeared, first a very aged housekeeper and later a handsome red-haired girl, who kissed her father dutifully. He looked at me with a twinkle in his eye, as if, so I thought, to convey, 'You see, even we Bolsheviks have family life.' Stalin's daughter started laying the table, and in a short time the housekeeper appeared with a few dishes. Meanwhile Stalin had been uncorking various bottles, which began to make an imposing array. Then he said, "Why should we not have Molotov? He is worrying about the communique. We could settle it here. There is one thing about Molotov- he can drink.'"
