As a person born on March 22, I approve of this thread and everything it stands for. Whatever that might be, exactly.

I plan to watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Here's why:

    "Old woman!"
    "Man."
"Sorry, what knight lives in that castle over there?"
    "I'm 37!"
    "I -- what?"
    "I'm 37, I'm not old!"

I need to reassure myself. :p

The trees behind my house are starting to get leaves and baby birds landing on the branches. It's been short sleeve weather here for a couple of weeks now. Now I just need work life to slow a bit so I can have time to get my bike out and ride, and I need the outdoor pools to open.

    Pollen sucks though.

We've already got the redbuds blooming and the wildflowers are out in force. So far it's an absolutely gorgeous spring!

We're planning to have hot dogs and a popcorn machine along with some cracker jacks at the office on April 4.

    But I didn't tell you this. [face_shhh]

    Happy equinox!
I hope everyone has a good one. I've got a nice little feast and everything planned tonight (anyone else?). It will be lovely. :)

I have no sign of spring yet, though, other than the weather getting warmer. The Canadian winter is taking a bit to move on out.

I'd like to go swim in the ocean but I'm still sick, so I'll have to think of something less physical.

On a more practical note but in line with the 'new beginning' element of the vernal equinox (if not the fecundity of the earth mother) I want to get some work done on my business plan today.

    Whatever you're doing, enjoy! :-D

plant those seeds of practicality!! we're also just days away from a Lunar Eclipse... pretty potent symbolism there, as well..

edit: also, i am sorry you're still unwell!

I welcome Spring! Just wish I'd see leaves sooner then May. :(

Nothing beats looking at a beautiful blue sky through a tree full of green. [face_love]

This is also Naw-Ruz, the New Year as observed in Iran and by members of the Baha'i Faith.

I've been seeing a pair of blackbirds gathering nesting material in my front garden. Looks like they've chosen the big pine tree there for the nest. Daffodils have been out for awhile here and some of the trees are starting to flower.

I agree on pollen - time to stock up on hayfever meds..

The origins of Nowruz are in Zoroastrianism, and also in pre-Zoroastrian Mazdaist as well as Mithraist beliefs. Through the changing religious makeup of the Iranian peoples through the centuries, the celebration of the new year has remained culturally significant, even as its religious significance has faded. It is today exclusively a secular holiday for most people, although not to the few thousand Zoroastrians who remain.

Funnily, several religious denominations have found ways to incorporate it into their own beliefs, though. Some Shia scholars attempt to give it divine importance by connecting it, among other things, to the birthday of Ali, son-in-law of prophet Muhammad, fourth Caliph for Sunnis and first Imam for Shias. Alawites and Sufis hold it in divine regard for similar reasons, or as a day to commemorate God's bounty. Alevis, a sect in Turkey not to be confused with the Syrian Alawites, also hold it as a holy day. As do the Druze. And, evidently, Baha'is.

I am going to miss cold(er) weather. Soon there will be nothing but heat until November. Hopefully there will at least be a little more rain from this pathetic (for southern California) El Niño.

I love spring in Florida so much! All the best plants are growing now and in the next 30 days they will be scorched out by the heat. My Equinox ritual was rained out so I did some spring cleaning hoodoo about the house.

I just got a major shock. It's Sunday night, 1am. I should go to bed. I look at the clock. 2am!
Has daylight saving time started without me noticing?
No. The clock's just set to probably China.
