It's the weathermen you've got to worry about...

Did anyone say this is something no other pilot has ever done or could do ever? It's just worth appreciating that a low altitude engine failure is possibly the most dangerous thing that can happen for a pilot (as you have such little time to correct or control the craft), never mind this being a WWII era plane.

And I'm not just relying on EW. LA news this evening had footage that national or international outlets didn't: eye-witness accounts, actual videos from several people, and more importantly interviews with several pilots at the airport who all said this was a perfectly executed crash landing, in spite of also being difficult. This is a tiny airport, and most of the pilots there know each other and are enthusiasts. None of them seemed surprised that Ford pulled this off, but they nevertheless were impressed.

Ford actually made it to about 2,000ft away from the runway. I worked 3 blocks away from the airport for 2 years and I also worked at one of the private hangers there for an aviation documentary... so I can tell you, the golf course is literally across the street. And it's also a very small 9-hole course itself. Everything else is wall to wall housing . That's pretty damn good emergency flying. No one's saying this was a bit of skilled flying unique to some actor, just that it's lucky this was a pilot who has almost 50 years of flying experience.

Praying is no less useful than wishing the man a speedy recovery on here.

Here's hoping he makes a quick recovery.
He's been unlucky the last few months with accidents & injury, but it doesn't seem like it's life threatening which is good.

Seriously though, I'll bet he was wishing he had a yellow, inflatable raft on him this time.

Just backing what solojones has said: I'm no expert myself but I have a mild interest in aviation and from what I can tell (and have read on my forum lurking) this appears to be impressive flying. No engines at low altitude doesn't leave a pilot with a lot of options and time (it's the same thing that happened to Captain Sully). Did Ford execute some sort of genius Han Solo flying? No. But it seems he properly diagnosed and reacted to the problem (to say nothing of handling the plane well), and that alone is pretty commendable in aviation, where a lot of the time even skilled pilots don't make the right calls. This easily could have gone sideways and ended in tragedy.

I think a fair amount of entertainment media are just unaware Ford's being doing this for years. By now he's probably a pretty competent pilot, and was able to make a quick decision to put the plane down when he could. Not really an amazing feat but definitely competent and lucky.

In my experience, there's no such thing as luck

BTW, has anyone done the "Artoo, where are you? We need you at the bunker right away." line yet? If not, I'm claiming it.

Is the one I tweeted better...?

When Harrison Ford crash lands on a golf course, the golf course apologizes.

A friend of mine died late last year when one of his engines (two engine plane) failed right after take off. Excellent flying on Ford's part, and I'm grateful for him and his family that he survived.

No, I'd say a broken ankle and pelvis is seriously injured. Not slightly.

He walked away from the crash. Perhaps one should "man-up".
