Caroline asked me the same thing yesterday. Since I'm not going to be seeing it (at all) I don't know the answer. I know Autobot was talking about doing a group thing.

Well, I was gonna go to the IMAX one, but seeing as I have to work the next morning, I've decided to see it at a midnite showing at the theater a couple of minutes from my house. Anyone who is in the South or Southwest Burbs and wants to join me just let me know. I've seen both of the other films on opening night and I won't change now.
Having read the books I know that they are getting darker, and more mature, and people are starting to get murdered in the stories. I think they get a bad rep just cause kids like them. Who cares?!?! The last one was like War and Peace in length. And besides, THIS one was made by the Mexican Skinamax guy that directed E Tu Mama Tambien, the pornographic road trip. I don't think this guy is even remotely going for "kiddie-flick".

"Y Tu Mama Tambien" is constantly referred to as "pornographic" by people who either weren't paying attention or (more likely) didn't see it at all. No one mentions Cuaron's "Great Expectations" or -better yet- "A Little Princess."

"...Tambien" is a great film about adolescence, adulthood, and numerous aspects of Mexican culture. But a few (very) brief scenes of 17-year-old boys being 17-year-old boys and the film is forever labelled as porn.

There's a fitting line from a crappy Woody Harrelson flick called "Play it to the Bone." Since it veers past randy and straight into "Rabid Wolverine" territory, I'll have to post a link insteaed of the direct line:
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0196857/quotes

I'd like to see the film this weekend, but regradless of the whole "Harry Potter isn't just for kids" thing, anyone who doesn't think there'll be millions of pre-teens on opening weekend before the midnight shows is foolong themselves. I think I'll wait a few weeks.

Awesome quote, very true. But as to the millions of pre-teens thing. It's all a matter of going to the right theaters. Kids...sure...packed house...not everywhere. Personally, I'm far enough from the city and the densely populated burbs (not to mention there are a lot of, um, lemme see, non-money spending folks round here) that a few of the theaters around me are RARELY if ever packed. Don't take offense that I called Tambien "pornographic". I only said it in reference to the fact that it is not for the majority of "The Harry Potter Generation". Personally I loved Tambien, and what I've seen of HP3 he's captured the mood better than Columbus. But people who'll be dressed like Hogwarts students in line won't have seen Cuaron's previous films. Nothing personal, I just read incessantly, and I've just grown weary of trying to overcome my friend's pompousness about what they consider "childish" when most of them have never read anything thicker than a comic book in their life.

HP certainly isn't just for kids, but it's too bad that most kids haven't seen "A Little Princess," which is better than the first HP film (probably better than the second if it had the same director.)

A late show is defintely for me. Wonder if there'll be any midnight screenings...

Unfortunately, I work on Fridays and wouldn't be able to go.
The bookclub is meeting on June 12th downtown,, why don't we meet, discuss book, eat at Bennigans, and then head to the IMAX?
