Those shoes look like they would have to be custom made.

I know a place on Orange County California, they make the shoes for the Disneyland characters, but that doesn't help you much on the other side of the country.

I think I never posted photos of my Prof. McGonagall Yule ball gown. I was holding off until I'd worn it at Lumos.

OK sitting here watching the fourth one again, my son loves these movies. When I thought that this year to let him dress up for Halloween. I was thinking about doing the first task outfit. Since it looks like a track suit with a cloak over it. He is in daycare, and I don't want to put him in anything to bulky, or to dressy that can get ruined. I know there are patterns for the robe, but as far as the suit I can't think of anything. I am new to sewing, so really don't know where to look. I actually looked on ebay and found only two selling this outfit.

Hello everyone. I am really happy to find other people who not only love Star Wars costuming, but Harry Potter costuming as well.

I am getting everything put together to go as Hermione from OotP. I know that is very cliche, but I don't have too long before I become too old to play her. I am thinking about making a Tonks costume later though.

Here is my Hermione costume so far:

My friend is going as Luna:

I don't know too many guys who like HP costuming. Maybe I just haven't found them, but I wish I could find someone to play Harry or Ron or Sirius.

I have a question for anyone who has made a Harry Potter question. Do you wish there was a club like the 501st and Rebel Legion for Harry Potter costumers?

I do. I think its a shame with such a huge following no one has been able to get the costumers organized in the way RL and 501st can.

You know if we keeping making costumes like this we are going to have to change halfway through or go a number of times with all our costumes on!

(Btw, I am the Luna in the picture)

For OotP, I'll probably just rewear my Slytherin School Uniform with a few upgrades.

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/idrial/Harry_Potter/Photoshoot2/060409_hp009.jpg]

The upgrades will be a new Sweater (there goes my USD81.50 [face_hypnotized] ), maybe a scarf and new skirts (correct color this time as my current one is actually my Pre-University/Junior Collage School Skirt that is a few shades too light for a PoA/GoF/OotP Style Skirt). If I got some money to spare after paying for all these, I will love to get a Wand from Alivan so as to have a more fancy and "accurate" wand for myself. :p

And if I still have some strength and discipline in me before July, I might try to redo my Slytherin Robe so that this time, the Hood and Robe Body Color Lining is 1 piece instead of 2, the sleeves ends are more better shaped and there are side pockets in the robe, apart from the usual Wand Pocket and Misc. Stuffs Pockets on the Robe Lining. :p

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v640/idrial/Harry_Potter/References/robe_lining1_800.jpg]

Might also do the Cloak as it suppose to be easy to do as it's just a full-circle and I been thinking about doing it for some time for my Slytherin & Moaning Myrtle/1942 Student Costumes.

Apart from that, I got at least 2 commission Robes to do (a Gryffindor & Hufflepuff), 2 new robes (Ravenclaw & Hufflepuff) to make for myself or lend to friends during the OotP Movie Premiere or Opening/Costume Outing and my Beauxbatons Costume parts to be made/purchase or redo.

LOL! Hope all these are not just wishful thinking and I can actually fulfil them by July 12th!

Well, I wish too as it'll be great to have a sense of belonging to something but the problem IMHO is "Why" is there a need to have such clubs for Harry Potter?

Then there is a question of "Who" will want to start it in the first place, how the group can be admined, what quality and type of costumes will be allowed to be official members etc etc.

Will love to hear your reasoning on why this is wanted. ;)

Madam Maulkins has an HP costuming website. If it were updated regularly, and had more content, it could be the the organizational base we seek. They have a message group, too, though it's on Yahoo.

Ok well here is how I had the idea. I like looking at other people's costumes. It helps me build and improve and strive in my own work. So I've been getting on the numerous HP costume boards and have been trying to find pictures, but there is a common problem. Alot of people have deleted their pictures so I could not see them.

In RL they have a permanent archive of costumes where you can go and look at them. That is what I am saying HP costuming should have, a place where people can get their costumes posted and have it there forever.

Not only would it give a permanent place for people to show off their costumes, it would enable HP costumers to come together. Instead of having sites all over the net this palace would bring all these people and their creations together.

I personally have had trouble finding other costumers in my area. I know they are out there but there seems to be no real place to go to get to them. The RL, and more so the 501st, is really good about pulling people in a certain area together. I live in the Carolinas and I know its not a heavily costumed area but going to the movies to see GOF I did see some people dressed up so I know they are out there. The trouble is finding and contacting them. This would be where the site would come in handy it would be a place to make friends.

It would also be a good opportunity for HP costumers to get together for conventions, movies, book releases, parties, ect.

The site would also present an opportunity for HP costumers to share their ticks, ask questions, and collaborate on the costumes.

As for the quality of the costumes, I would like to see this site put its foot down on the costume's quality as RL and 501st does. That is what makes the SW costuming legions special, they make sure their member's costumes look GOOD, and they are deeply respected for having professional level costumes. I think that is what this site should do, or at least have two different categories, one for professional looking costumes and one for casual. I've seen some great HP costumes and really bad ones. I think the main rule would be, as it is for RL and 501, no store bought costumes. This doesn't include stores such as Whimsic Alley where their robes are professional looking, I mean the cheapo Halloween costumes we all know and despise.

I think this would be a great opportunity to really pull HP costumers together, especially since OotP is coming out, but the question still remains, who is up to such a task.

The Madame Malkins site was intended to be a lot like the Alley Cat Scratch site is to LotR. It is supposed to have tutorials, pictures, people's experiences building costumes etc. Only thing is Muggle Life has interfered with it. That's why it's slow to update, and slow to get people's submissions.

The Rebel Legion and the 501st are completely different beasts, they aren't just there for the galleries. They do events for LFL and for a variety of charities. Their galleries are there not just to show off stuff but also so that event coordinators can pick people. On top of it, LFL supports the groups as long as people aren't making money off it.

That said, I don't think HP costuming will ever get to the level of the RL and 501st simply because it's highly unlikely that Warner would support such endeavors. They just don't have the understanding and desire to support costuming groups/fandom to the level that LFL supports Star Wars fandom. It's really a shame. You'll more likely get a Cease and Desist letter from Warner than a pat on the head.

Thanks for the explaination Arsinoe. It's too bad the designers of MM haven't had the time to put into it. I really could be THE place. It does take both people with the time and the computer skills to put up a site and message board. That is what has pulled 501st and RL together. It also takes money for web hosting, though many members are willing to contribute.

I think it is possible for HP costumers to do events similar to Star Wars costumers. As you say, though, the big difference is that Lucas refers requests to the local groups. However, locally we've made our own contacts, though through the SW connections. Our group of HP costumers have provided in costume entertainment for the lines waiting for HP fims at the local Science Center IMAX. We've also attended the book releases together.

I see them having events more like movies and book releases. Sadly, there is only one more book and (hopefully) the last three movies.

I think OotP will give us more ideas for costumes, which is a plus.

Can I confess that I am one of the culprits who still owe the Website some "Costumes Explaination & Breakdowns" Contributions? [face_blush]

Ya, the website is meant as a Group Effort but I guess many of us got RL issues to settle first so we haven't been able to send it details infos, costume breakdowns etc to the Webmistress. Even the simple website I'm suppose to do as part of the local "Recruitment" for HP Costumers and Cosplayers to join my group in our upcoming July 12th event is like such a burden to complete 2 months into its contruction now. And if there is no contributions, there will be not much to update. [face_worried]

Anyhow, anyone else here had collected the Artbox Costume Cards? I gotten a few recently and now trying to find the time to try to match the color to a DMC Color Code or try to figure out what material type it is. Will post photos of them scanned as soon as I get my Scanner-Printer Combo this March. ;)
