I found this piece of info on which pattern to use for the Beauxbatons:

As for the hat, if you got money to burn or know anyone who're willing to share the Hat Shaper with you, can get this one:
    http://www.hatshapers.com/Product%20Pages/Flower.htm

I am still looking for someone to help make the Beauxbatons Hat for me at reasonable price. [face_praying]

Reasonable price being the keyword! Someone was selling one on Ebay awhile back but it ended up being over $70 if I remember correctly.

Mine is almost done. I just need to make the necklace (for Luna). I managed to get earrings on Ebay, and I've been collecting pieces over time.

So is everyone dressing up for OotP? Or the book? Or both?

I'm still in the pattern mods stage of my Ravenclaw robes. I've been working with Butterick 4050 for the actual robe/cloak, and I'll tell you right now, I will never buy another Butterick pattern again. So far all of the mods have been just to get it to *fit* me correctly, because I'm really short (and the pattern itself is layed out in the most ridiculous time-consuming way). Oh, and I did a minor modification to the sleeve - they have two sleeve options, and the one that looks like it would work is actually far too large. So, I'm using the second option, and had to adjust the hem shape. But, all that's left to do is shorten the sleeve pattern, and alter the hood.

I also have a scarf from Wizard Knits - I agree, DE, it's gorgeous! I have't ordered a sweater yet, but I don't really want to wear one in the summer heat anyway. ;) I'll probably order it after the book comes out.

I have two patches - one from Patch Palace, which has gone into hiding (I think due to legal trouble), and the other from PatchGeeks.com. Both patches are beautifully done and true to the movie, but the one from Patch Palace is definitely more accurate. I spent a lot of time comparing the two patch photos to the one sewn onto Cho Chang's robe (a high-res photo), but it wasn't until I had them in-hand that I realized how much more movie-like the Patch Palace version is. I believe they're still selling as well, but you have to hunt them down, now, which is really a shame.

The only other thing to do is the skirt, and I'll be following the tutorial by StarFirePhoenix. :) Picked up the fabric for it a while ago.

I'll also be ordering a patch from Avistrum, for Enigmus House (the corresponding house to Ravenclaw). All kinds of fun!

I'm putting together a Hermione student uniform costume (trying to make it like OOTP). I've got a question about the type of fabric used for the robes.

I'm wondering if any of you who have the student robe costume cards from the more recent movies (POA & GOF) can clarify for me the type of fabric used to make the student robes. A friend of mine says she has a Hermione robe card, and that the fabric seems like a pebbly crepe. However, some of the scans I've seen of Neville's robe fabric look like more of a gabardine (twill like striations in the grain). I'm not sure what Harry's fabric is like.

So, do the fabrics vary for each particular student? Did they change from POA to GOF? Are the girls robes (like Hermione) made from different fabric than the boys? I've ordered a robe costume card for Harry, but I notice that the Hermione cards go for almost double the price and didn't want to invest in one if her fabric is the same as Harry's.

    Thanks.

Its possible they changed the robe fabric between POA and GOF since the costume designers changed. Sorry I couldn't help you more with the fabric. :( If you find out what kind it is, please share cause one day, lol always one day for me, I'll have to invest and make a new robe. That's on my list along with the cardigan from Hobbie's I'll have to save up for.

I got Neville's one and it does look like some sort of Suiting with those "diagonals" lines, maybe Wool or Blend. Dun dare to hunt for the actual yet here in Singapore as Wool Suiting cost a lot. Last month, I kinda spent my last SGD50 on a 2m of Wool Fabric for my PoA Skirt; imagine how much I have to spend on ~6m of it for a School Robe especially on the very limited budget I have now! :_|

Not too sure about GoF one as I haven't got the chance to get it yet.

Hmm....your friend sure it's not the fabric for the Skirt or even Sweater? When I get my first few Fabric Swatch, the seller mistakenly told me the fabric looks like for the pants or black when it's the Sweater or Dark Grey.

I've always been under the impression that the robes were made from wool, too. Is there such a thing as wool crepe? If there is, then that's probably what your friend is seeing on the costume card. If not, then... ::spreads hands::

I'm just doing a generic ol' Hogwarts student who belongs to Ravenclaw. :) My fabric is actually that heavier cotton twill (not denim) that has a slight stretch to it (I think it's 95% cotton, 5% lycra). I have another cloak made from this same fabric, and I love it. I just didn't have the heart to buy that much black wool. [face_hypnotized]

Yeah, Scan's of Neville's fabric look like a twill or gabardine. I don't know if the card said it is his 'cloak' fabric or if it could be his pants fabric by chance?

The friend I mentioned BTW is Jedi-Siri above ;)

Oh, the only reason I think I can afford wool is because there is a place in Los Angeles called B Black & Sons that sells an abundant variety of wool suiting for a very reasonable price. A limited selection is available online too.

The pants will be Dark Charcoal Grey, not Plain Black. ;)

Mine is indeed Black for Neville as I think the Pants or Skirt swatch may be harder to find for PoA/GoF ones or just pop up with the new series (almost bid on it last week).

I'm almost finished with my Bellatrix costume, I just need to make the Death Eater mask. It's not like the movie costume though, partly due to lack of time and partly to lack of pictures.

    Thought I'd post this here...

    [image=http://www.cosplaylab.com/lab/35044-160747.jpg]

I'm making it for Dragoncon but I tried to rush it a bit so I could have it for the OotP and Deathly Hallows premiers. Though I may not have my wig by tuesday so I may just wear the shirt to the premier. Still working on the pants, have to do some more distressing and add about 8 more patches.

Hi larame_kaine I love your Tonks... I have made one too for the movie tomorrow!

She is so like the coolest girl character... next to Bellatrix of course..

Here is mine... (my friend have told me I look like the actress that is playing Tonks in the movie)

Omg! Awesome! You DO look like Natalia Tena!! I'm glad we are on the same page with the costume. I like how they did her in the movie, but I always see her in this outfit because of the book. >_<

FYI - I now have my Neville costume card and Harry Potter costume card from POA. I can only assume each card is of cloak fabric, as the cards themselves do not say what clothing item the fabric actually came from! (who's to say it isn't from their pants?)

The 2 costume cards have different fabric. Neville's does have a fine twill weave and I believe it is a gabardine. Harry's costume card from POA looks like it was the black lining fabric from the inner part of the robe (since the robes are not fully lined with red). It looks like an acetate, polyester, or rayon. It isn't shiny like many lining fabrics, it is more matte. But it looks a bit thin and cheap to be the outer part of the robe.

This is me in my Bellatrix (not exact I know) and my friend Obi Wan Toddi in the Professor Snape I made him. He did the buttons himself and the white cuffs and collar. ;)

And below are my kids in their Quiddich robes...my father made their broomsticks and wands for them out of a tree in my yard and the brush from the offcuts of a brush fence.

Everyone's costumes look fantastic! Here is my Hermione costume I wore to the midnight showing. We were the only ones dressed up sadly, but it was still very fun. Met a couple of girls in line who were fascinated by us. I'll be wearing this to the book release:

Well, here's my Bellatrix costume so far. I'm going for more of a pre-Azkaban look, I think, so it's not at all like the movie's costume. It's still missing a few finishing touches that I think will add a lot -- hair (I'm going to stay with the shorter hair but dye it darker and style it differently), death eater mask, wand, and makeup.
