Luke has his goggles that sit ontop of his funny hat from the deleted scene opening but doesn't use 'em, I think there's other goggle-wearing folk scattered around Mos Eisley and Mos Espa but they never seem to be wearing them. What gives? Desert planet! Gotta have eyestrain at some point.
Deleted sandstorm scene from ROTJ, but they're full-blown protective goggles, not sunglasses. I've got a feeling that there might be some background characters here & there across all six films wearing big, weird looking eyepieces with dark lenses, but inside, or at night. Of course, the real reason we don't see any sunnies on Tatooine is the risk of the crew being visible in the reflection...
You mean like the one in Phantom Menace? Which was a sandstorm. On Tatooine. I don't know about the citizens of Mos Eisley, but The Emperor has been known to rock a set of shades.
I doubt they called them "sunglasses" but I bet if you went over all the EU books with a fine-tooth comb you'd find a reference to "shade visors" or something similarly Star Wars-ian twist. Y'know how they aren't "lazer guns" but "blasters" or something.
