Blade of Tyshalle is wildly different. Each Caine book is. It's less straight fantasy, more murky philosophical exploration of loss and perseverance and friendship and all kinds of stuff that also has massive asskicking. It's more of a Traitor or maybe Shatterpoint while Heroes Die is more of a LSATSOM. It also has one of my favorite lines ever. Highly recommended. As much as I love Heroes Die, Blade of Tyshalle is really the masterpiece of the Acts of Caine.

LOL ah well I was gonna say. I've been listening to you guys go on for years about how "deeply philosophical" this series is, but Heroes read like an M-rated WoW novelization.:p

If HD was KotOR, BoT is KotOR 2. Only moreso.

(And I remember being mad impressed that Stover created the perfect setting for an MMO franchise before MMOs even existed. Though I guess, at the time, it was more "LARPing writ large".)

Fargo is the best new show!

Meanwhile, I'm waiting for Hulu to pick up Community.

Fargo is great. Like an actual Coen Brothers movie, they're doing so many weird things along the way that they're setting themselves up so that failure is near impossible. It could end totally predictably at this point and still be amazing.

But I have to be honest... I only want Community back if Donglover---*ahem* Don Glover comes back.

I'm basically operating on the assumption that Community is done. IF it comes back, I'll be pleasantly surprised--though to be honest, from a story standpoint, I like where they left things. I don't know that finding an excuse to keep them at the school for yet another year is ideal at this point.

Fargo = utter perfection. I'm enjoying it so much that I've been going back and crossing other Coen movies off my to-do list just to keep myself from freaking out between episodes.

Agreed. I would have liked actual payoff to Jeff/Annie though, rather than just implied where they left it.

Fargo is 10 episodes or 13? I think the former, but would love the latter.

My personal favorites are Miller's Crossing (as a fan of Dashiell Hammett) and The Man Who Wasn't There. Both underrated.

    10.

Also, I guess I just don't get the 'shipping stuff on Community. The season 4 scabs showed that it's kind of a weird context for romantic plots, and Harmon really only uses that if there's a particular theme which can only be explored through a established relationship; he does a lot of stuff with social hierarchies, exploring how difficult it is for two individuals alone to really connect, while a small personal group (a community) can have something more meaningful.

    10. And it's an anthology so next season is a totally new story--though I'm hoping Budge and Pepper come back.

Edit: Is it still "ninja'd" if I didn't notice there was another page?

Noted. I was considering MWWT but I wasn't sure what to make of it.

LARPing the Overworld sounds really dangerous.

    "I rip out your guts!"

His books still stand as the most gruesome I've ever read. But they were great -- or at least the first two were. I never did read CBK, even after all the wait for it. Those were the days when Stover still posted here, too...

I liked Heroes Die enough to want to keep going, but it was a three-month read for me. When I saw how long Tyshalle was, my eagerness...waned. But I'll get to it someday.

@DigitalMessiah : I'm surprised that you didn't bring up the Twin Peaks-esque TV show/fun house from Max Payne 2.

Ah, a shame - they took a throwaway gag in Max Payne about a Twin Peaks-esque show, and turned it into a full 'thing', centered around a large funhouse. One of the more amusing moments - you can watch a thug explaining the show to another thug, telling him he has the whole series on tape, but ruins it for the guy by giving away the 'twist'. (And then, of course, you drop in and kill them both. )

Also, TOKYO IS LIVE in the Secret World. (Jello, are you going to get on board, or what?)

Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink behind the lake,
    The shadows lengthen
    In Carcosa.

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
    But stranger still is
    Lost Carcosa.

Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
    Must die unheard in
    Dim Carcosa.

Song of my soul, my voice is dead,
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
    Shall dry and die in
    Lost Carcosa.

I told Trip that I'd play when they let me wear Roman clothing (not armor) everywhere.
