Extremely loosely based on the myth, yes.

I think you are making the conversation considerably more confrontational than it needs to be.

Especially in the social thread. :p

    Recently, among casual fans:

"What's that mean, 'BBY'? That like 'BC' or something?"
"Yeah, like 'Before the Birth of Yesus' I think."
"Yoda, man! This is Star Wars!"

Listening to casual fans try to understand things is like watching a baby trying to figure things out with its pudgy little hands. Doomed to failure, but adorable in the attempt anyway.

Well that's not patronising at all. :p

Though I'll confess that the last time someone tried to explain to me that they knew loads about the EU because "I've heard of Mara Jade" my reaction was:

I had been drinking, though, so my ungraciousness was justified.

    It's pretty awesome, isn't it?
What other show would have Neil DeGrasse Tyson as a talking pig, or Mark Hammill as Nightmare Fuel?
(The answer is Adventure Time, but I'm sure you knew that)

Just watched The Drop... recommended for fans of crime movies. Kinda slid under the radar this year, not super twisty-turny but plays with expectations in a good way.

That (as well as Killing Them Softly, which popped up on Netflix a while back) really make me mourn the loss of James "Little Gandalf" Gandolfini.

Reading the annotated Holmes - Star Wars fans have nothing on the disagreements among Sherlockians.

Well, except that they are about 1000x more polite about it than we are, and somehow take it more and less seriously at the same time... :p

Once you watch it, you will feel sooooo differently. ONLY IN A LEAP FROM THE LION'S HEAD, DR. JONES.

(You could watch Bravest Warriors on Youtube instead if you want an idea of it... Pendleton Ward's other show, different animation, similar humor.)

I suppose you could watch the "A Glitch Is A Glitch" or "The Food Chain" episodes, which feature different art styles.

Or you could just admit you're wrong and the art style is AWESOME. :p

Can you explain how you find the art style awe inspiring?

That was mostly a jest in response to Gorefiend's comment. But I do like the art style (so much that I got the art book as an Xmas gift) because it lends itself to being expressive. Does it do so at the expense of realism? Possibly, but that's a difficult statement to make - how many children's cartoons show post-apocalyptic landscapes littered with the debris of civilization? Plus it really works for showing off Jake's transformations.
But I would probably rate the voice work, world building and scripts at a higher level than the animation.

(Keep in mind that I was born in the 70s, and the hallmark of bad animation - the yardstick that I measure everything else against - is the horrible onslaught of Hanna Barbara cartoons from my youth)

Yeah, the animation serves the tone and themes of the show... not the other way around. Maybe not impressive in a first-impressions kind of way, but it is a talent in its own right.

I can recall thinking it looked weird before I watched it, but honestly I've forgotten that time, like, with the completeness of the way you forget a dream... I only remember having the thought, and the character of the show is so vibrant that I can't imagine how I felt that way.
