Det, MI Have Detroit fans picked a name yet?

We were talking about choosing a name for the Detroit fan group.If there hasn't been one picked yet,I have some suggestions.Feel free to post your own ideas,and we could vote on it.(?)

I like "Garbage Chute Flyboys".

 

I was thinking we should try to use Detroit or Motown or something related to our area in the name. The only one I've come up with so far is -

R2-Dtroit (where are you?)

I agree...we should think about a name. A bunch of us were going to get together on the 9th, and I thought we could brainstorm there and then put it to a vote in this forum.

Thoughts?

I thought something relating to the weather would be funny:
Detroit FF: And you thought the weather on Hoth was bad

Or perhaps something making fun of our roads:
Detroit FF: A retched hive of potholes and orange barrels

Or maybe just something simple:
Detroit FF: Got Sith?

Just a few ideas off the top of my head.

 

Detroit FF:"But it's SUPPOSED to be freezing!"

Detroit FF:"The Republic doesn't exist out here.We must survive on our own"

lol, I love the one with the referance to Hoth. Honestly, these wampa attacks are getting to be a bit much. I liked Idgie's second one as well.

Detroit FF: R2-Dtroit - "But it's SUPPOSED to be freezing!"

Why do I get the idea we don't have the best image of the area we live in here, with some of these name selections?

How about the Michigan State Sith?

M_D, I am one of the biggest Michigan fans you'll find! I can't stand MSU teams, but I thought of this name because it's all-inclusive, catchy and uses one of the "cool" parts of the SW universe. Although I do really like Mirax's suggestion of R2-Detroit.

 

Maybe it sounds stupid but...Detroit Rebel Alliance, or Detroit Squadron, like something with reference to a group in sw. I think that R2-Dtroit sounds pretty clever too. As far as UofM or State references, maybe you could just use Great Lakes Sith, that might be a little too inclusive though since other states border on the Great Lakes, even though they are OUR LAKES.

 

Just a thought: I think we should avoid any sports references in our name. The reason being is as follows:

Believe it or not, some people aren't sports fans. And to have a sports reference in the group's title might turn some people away from getting invovled. I know that might sound silly, however, when I started that "Hockeytown FF Party Lounge," I named it for something that I thought would represent/indicate Detroit. I got several people asking me if it was a hockey thread. And I also got "I don't like hockey, can I still post there?" and that sort of thing.

So if this is a group for everyone, then the name should reflect everyone, not just the sports fans.

Just my two cents.

 

Also,by using a school name,it might give the false impression that we are somehow associated with that school.It could be misleading.

I don't know,I'd just like us to have something that sounds unique.I see some of the other groups and the names all either have "Jedi Knights","Sith Lords",or "Rogue Squadron" in them.Let's maybe try to avoid the cliches and show right from the get-go that we're different and original.I think it would help when it comes to attracting new members,too.I can only speak for myself,but I would be more likely to check out a group called "R2-Detroit,the place for food,folks,and the Force" than,say,"Detroit Knights".The first group seems like they would be more fun to hang out with,IMHO.

You've all got to admit that The big D does not have the most respected name in all the land. You definately can't compare Detroit to Martha's Vineyard now can you, maybe South Central L.A. though.....

I agree that we would want the name to have a positive reflection if possible, and avoid the schools for the reasons mentioned. Perhaps R2-DTroit followed by a reference to the industry the area is so well known for? Maybe a mention of Detroit as the HQ for a division of Kuat Drive Yards. Perhaps tie into the Motown heritage and Max Rebo? Just some thoughts.

Personally, I also enjoyed the Hoth reference!
