Movie crew to film in Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor's Huron High School and some of its students are going to have a role in an upcoming Hollywood film.

A crew for the feature film ?Jumper? is expected to arrive in Ann Arbor for three days of shooting Thursday night.

In preparation for the crew's arrival, a Detroit-based agency called The Talent Shop will cast high-school-age extras for the film at Huron High School?s auditorium, at 2727 Fuller Road, from 2:30-6:30 p.m. today.

A Talent Shop representative will take digital photos of applicants and have them fill out a sheet of paper, said Liz Margolis, director of communications for the Ann Arbor Public Schools. ?So they?re not being asked to audition, per se.?

Based on Steven Gould?s 1992 young-adult novel about a young man who, after his mother dies, discovers that he can teleport himself, ?Jumper? stars Hayden Christensen, Dianne Lane and Samuel L. Jackson. Area native Tom Hulce also reportedly appears in the film. The director is Doug Liman (?Mr. & Mrs. Smith?).

The crew plans to film in Gallup Park on Friday and Saturday, and in front of Huron High School on Sunday. ?Sunday, I believe they?ll just be filming kids coming out of school at the end of the day and going to the buses,? said Margolis. ?And then they?re going to be doing some kind of filming near the ice at Gallup those other two days. So it will just sort of be ? kids hanging out after school and that kind of stuff.?

These will be scenes that appear early on in the film, and for this reason, you shouldn?t expect to see the film?s stars around town.

?Samuel Jackson and Diane Lane are involved later in the movie, so I don?t think (they?ll be in Ann Arbor),? Margolis said. She said Christensen may be on hand, however.
