do you think ani and obi are together during the clone wars? wouldn't the stress and intense emotions that take place in a war make obi sense ani's feelings and thoughts regarding padme? or do you think ani could hide them?...either way, it'll make for great drama in EP III, but maybe the war has caused ani and obi further problems and stress between each other and obi suspects that ani is hiding something from him...maybe even missinterprets it for something else...?

Hmm, I don't think Anakin would tell Obi-Wan because he knows, if he did, Obi-Wan would go straight to the Jedi Council, tell them and then Anakin would be kicked out.

I'm not bashing Obi-Wan here (I love him) but he's a by the book Jedi. i think the truth would have to come from Padme herself.

CCK, I like that idea. Maybe Obi-Wan could interpret his secrecy as something very dark...

But to continue what I said before, Anakin would look furious at 3PO and everyone else, and be sent back to the Temple so the Council could discuss what to do while Anakin is being watched by tons of Jedi.

I'd love to see a scene where Anakin is being teased about being married and he chops their heads off.

Who says they find out? And if they did, would it matter?

It's certainly possible that they won't find out, but then why would GL have shown us that they got married in secret? No, I think it's more likely that they'll find out.

As to how they find out, I think either Yoda or Obi-wan will figure it out using the Force.

I would like to settle this, r2 says he belongs to Obi-wan because Leia told him too. Leia was his owner because she inherited him from her mother who had the droid on her ship. Obi-wan never owned r2 and hardly spent time with him. Leia tells r2 that he now belongs to Obi-wan to make sure that Obi gets the messege and the death star plans.

EDIT: As for the topic, I think Obi-wan or Yoda would most likely discover the marriage through the force (reading minds or some other way), my only problem is why it would take them three years to read Anakin/Padme's mind?

Great thread. I haven't read all of it so I don't know if this has been theorized upon, if it has, let me know.

    1. Okay, so Anakin and Padme must keep their marriage a secret.

    2. Padme becomes pregnant.

    3. Around the time of Episode 3, Padme's term as a Senator may well be over, but I don't think it will be. The fact that there probably will still be attempts made on her life (there has to be, or its a useless plot point from the first two prequels) is evidence of this. So naturally, she'll still be attending meetings, albeit very pregnant.

    4. To hide the marriage from the Jedi Order, Padme confides in Bail Organa, and the two begin to reel the story that they are married and Bail is the father of the unborn child(ren).

    5. When Anakin turns to the Dark Side, Padme reveals the truth to Obi-Wan out of fear for herself and her children.

That's how I feel it should happen, since we don't really know Bail that well and this would instantly establish him as a key player in the SW universe. Who knows? Maybe Bail has a thing for Padme so she uses that to protect the secret, although I don't think she'd be so conniving.

My second theory involves the droids, one to be exact:

R2 was witness to just about every major event in the PT and OT, and as George Lucas said, the story is very much being told through the eyes of these two droids. In that sense, I think it'd be pointless if both droids got their memories erased. R2 claimed to have belonged to an Obi-Wan Kenobi in ANH, tho Obi-Wan doesn't recall owning a droid, so R2 just said he used to belong to Obi-Wan to get the message out. I mean, how else would he get in contact with someone who could help the cause he was pimping? (Okay, bad metaphor) Nearly all the people who might have been able to help him are all dead by the time ANH rolls around. It is my idea that R2's memory isn't erased, yet Threepio's is, which begs the question of how this all ties into Padme and Anakin's marriage spilling out.

It is my idea that perhaps the information of what happened on Naboo when Anakin was "escorting" Padme back is sequestered from R2, meaning that he doesn't willingly "spill the beans," so to speak. His memory is drawn from his system, copied, and translated, and that's how they learn of the marriage. Or maybe they just threaten Threepio with physical harm, who knows? (He always was a bit of a coward, though I never understood why he's so scared all the time. I know I wouldn't be afraid if I knew I could be put back together again. Does Threepio even feel pain? Ugh, I'm ranting again).

Just my 2 cents, to beat the cliche into the ground.

Not bad. I agree more with the droids theory.

I assume Padme knows Bail at least relatively well because they are both Senators. According to ANH, General Kenobi served Organa during the Clone Wars.

The connection makes sense, as long as Anakin has no idea Padme is friends with him. Keep in mind, Vader tortures Leia Organa in ANH, yet doesn't discover she's his daughter (yes, I KNOW Lucas hadn't figured that part out yet).

Also, you raised an interesting point:

why would the attacks on Padme continue?

In TPM, she was supposed to sign a treaty to hand over Naboo to the TF, and thereby Sidious.

In AOTC, she was in danger b/c she was the leader of the "anti-war, pro-negotiations" group in the Galactic Senate. If she was assassinated, war would probably break out.

What's going to happen in Episode III? The Clone Wars, I'm assuming, will just be wrapping up near the beginning of the movie.

So what's going to be the conflict that drives the plot? Palpatine becoming Emperor, the Jedi Purge, hiding the twins, The Duel.

So what plot point could there be to have more attacks on Padme? I can think of two:

    (i) they won't be attacks per se, but kidnapping attempts - to get her and the twins.

(ii) Padme will discover that Palpatine IS Sidious before he is finally ready to take control, and she is speeding to tell the Jedi Council/Senate the truth.

Darth-sennin, my bad! I didn't see your post there before I replied with my droid theory. That does explain why R2 said he belonged to Obi-Wan. I'm still of the mind that he'll get the info from R2, possibly before wiping his memory, along with Threepio's.

I saw this and so I read the several pages. I have to admit I have not heard the theory about someone gaining the knowledge about the marriage from the driods before. Very interesting. I think also that it maybe possible that 3CPO does say something indirectly that would cause someone to get supcious. Sort of slip of the tongue.

I had also like the Bail idea. It sort of makes sense and would be a way to tie into leaving Leia on Alderan.

I wonder also if its possible that someone could tell Padme is with child (by recognizing the signs of pregancy) and drops hints so that it becomes gossip and the jedi hear about the gossip and decide to find out somehow. Gossip has a way of getting people's attention no matter if its true or not. (of course this all depends on how far along she will be. I have often heard that women who have been pregnant reconginze the signs in other women who are pregnant)

Padme is already sensing Anakin is turning evil. She can see his rage while on their picnic (Someone POWERFUL should make them listen...) She also sees his rage when he goes into "Puree" mode on all of the sandpeople.

She will fear for her life, and go to the jedi. THIS will push Anakin over the edge. This will bring Palpy out of hiding.

Count Dooku will figure out he has been used. He will get chopped into tiny little pieces by Anakin (Ala "Strike down _____ and take his place"...)

Anakin LOOKS like the hero to the JC that just tossed him out. He walks in and goes into puree mode. Mace, Yoda, and Ob1 escape.

OB1 and mace send the little green muppet to swampworld 1, where he kills Asajj Ventress inside of a little sapling. Palpy goes for Sidious, OB1 takes out ANakin and gives him a lava bath.

As always, just speculation on my part.

I agree Padme knows Anakin has "major issues" with the Jedi, his behavior in Episode II was irrational so I think maybe his behavior will be so mucn more than what it was in aotc.

How's this for an idea: Padme's pregnant. now if the gffa is anything like our world, there will be rumors over who the father is? And eventually they'll put 2+2 together.

The sandpeople tortured his mother to death. I think she understands. And my feeling is that Padme isn't real fond of the Jedi. They completely dismiss her idea (which was correct) that Dooku was behind her attacks. She calls them "reckless" in TPM. She obviously also doesn't think much of their "not being allowed to love" and "not being allowed to marry". As far as the picnic scene argument, I saw it as two friends cutting up. My husband and I are fairly opposite on the political spectrum and it makes for some good debates. My parents cancelled each other out in every election between 1980 and 2000, but held their marriage together.

My opinion? Anakin should just tell the Jedi, "I'm married--heck with you if you don't like it." But I think it probably comes out when they discover Padme is pregnant.

Ok, as far as I can tell from scanning the pages, no one's considered this scenario:

Padme, pregnant - though not visibly so - visits, or is visited by some Jedi, who immediately sense a "vergence in the force" from her gestating twins! They say nothing to Padme, but relay the news to the council . . .

When I first saw AOTC, I viewed the marriage and Palps's gathering of the Clone Troops as the first things that were going horribly, horribly wrong for the republic.

Just wanted to answer why assassin's would still be hunting Padme. One reason: Nute Gunray wants her dead because she has screwed his plans multiple times now.

But I add another reason that I truly like better. Anakin consults with Palps and lets it slip about Padme. Palps tells the jedi council. Palps sets up her death framing the jedi in the process somehow. In doing so, he eliminates a wildcard "Padme", splits division between Ani and Jedi even wider, and draws Ani closer to himself.

    Just a thought--love reading everyone's theories.

That's possible about Anakin letting it slip about Padme, but I don't think Palps would tell the Jedi Council.
