    Yoda was just being cranky and senile. Sometimes things happen for not good reasons. That's why movies are interesting stories and not math problems.

    Yoda saw that Luke had no patience. The first lesson he was trying to teach Luke was patience. Yoda started off by testing Luke's patience. And from there, he can determine whether or not Luke was fit to be trained.

    Obi-1 and Yoda knew Luke would have to be trained anyway. But Yoda was trying to avoid another disaster. Such as what happened with Luke's father.
