The SW roleplaying game always looked so fun, but I don't know anyone who would play it with me. Hmph.

I practice administrative law.

Basically that means that I work for a government agency and represent the Department when we bring charges that someone has violated the statutes we oversee.

Specifically, I work for the State of Illinois, the Department of Professional Regulation . So when a professional that we license does something wrong, I'm one of the lawyers that prosecutes the case.

Looooots of paperwork, due process and politics, but I like it.

That's sounds kind of interesting. I have considered going into law but I don't want to do Criminal or Injury so when ever I meet laywers I ask them what field so maybe I might get an idea.

 

My job suits my preferred work habits as well. I knew I didn't want to work for a private firm (billable hours are evil, plus I like to have a life), wanted to work for government, but didn't want to do crim work (crim prosecutors tend to be a little more high strung).

In my position we do some litigation, but not a ton, most of it is settlement work and I have some awesome attorneys that I can turn to for help. The benefits of working for the state is that you work 9(ish) to 5(ish), get 14 paid holidays, 10 vacation, 12 sick and 3 personal days a year. Down side is the pay, which is craptacular.

But I supplement by sewing costumes and/or clothes for friends/co-workers and hawking Mary Kay (yeah wholesale prices on makeup!)

Ironically, my little sister just moved to Chicago to start law school as well, although she has a drastically different degree, and she's got the personality to work in a big firm. Thus she will be rich and powerful, and I'll have all the silly costumes.

Well whatever suits you best. I couldn't ever see myslef working in a big firm either. One of my friends has recently started looking into copyright law. It sounds interesting. I think I would be best at area that is a lot of research and little litagation. It's not that I think I would be a poor litagator but I really enjoy research. Heck that's what I spend most of time on the internet doing. I get curious about something so I start searching for something. It's kinda of sad though. It's getting to point that my friends ask me to find stuff for them

That's okay though. I figure if people can spend 8 hours a day watching TV I can spend 8 hours a day on the net.
