You and me both. I had one hell of a day yesterday (3 hours of sleep then I had to teach a chemistry lab), my brain was not functioning on the higher levels.

I am having my butt kicked by DRL, and this is killing me to have to stop writing, if only temporarily. I am currently failing my ecology class and taking on a second job to make ends meet.

I know what you mean! Let's just say a graduate student stipend is not making me rolling in the dough. And being the anal retentive over acheiver I am, doing too much has made my blood pressure high and my doctor is "concerned".

So here's some unsolicited advice from a "professional student" (as my husband so endearingly calls me), Take it easy and it will all come around, and try not to stress to much. Sometimes I do and then I realize it's not worth it.

I'll definitely be here when you get back to writing, and would love a pm when you start the sequel!

 

He would be off on some distant world, trying to keep the republic in order, the darkness at bay. She would not be waiting to dress his wounds, as she did on Coruscant, in what seemed a lifetime ago. Her capable hands, small and so powerful, would not wrap the injury or hold back the night with a single touch.

How moving--what a wonderful update! I like how he has come to notice her--the curve of her hips, etc--and he has finally allowed her to consume him. This post was heavier than the earlier posts, as both of them consider the reality of the war and their duties after they leave Naboo. As he said, this assignment won't last forever.

Doesn't real life suck sometimes? You're the 2nd author whose work I have enjoyed immensely who is leaving. You did say break, right? As in hiatus? As in you will return at some point? Don't worry. Take care of your needs first. I definitely will be waiting for your next post or sequel or whatever you decide to create 'cuz I know it would be worth the wait..

Great yarn though. I loved the matchmaking attempt by the Naberrie family. It seems like everyone is trying to manipulate except for the poor, hapless Ani. Can't wait for part 2, but in the meantime, good luck w_s with your classes.

Chapter 13

The Fall Masking was a traditional event in Theed that went back to the days of harvest celebrations in the lush countryside. People would use the masks to celebrate the turn of seasons and the local harvest deity. The more elaborate the mask, the more pleasing the god would find it, thus blessing the crops of the person bearing the mask. Now it was a social gathering for the elite and the back-handed politicos to show who could waste the most republic credits on a rare t?chall?a plume mask.

Padme mingled and listened to chit-chat as she scanned the room hoping to spy her Jedi. Her fellow politicians were well on their way to being intoxicated. Padme mingled as well as she could, a glass of water in hand. Craning her neck, she searched for Anakin in the shadows of the room. He was well hidden, out of her field of vision.

A man appeared at the podium, whom Padme recognized as Palpatine?s aide Mas Amedda. He spoke loudly, gathering the crowd?s attention to him.

?Gentle beings, welcome to the Fall Masking Ceremony. May I present esteemed High Chancellor Palpatine.? Mas Amedda stepped aside, and Palpatine almost seemed to float up to the podium.

Behind him was a striking young woman with a fall of blue and black hair. She wore a Jedi Robe, black as the night sky, and a form-fitting black leather unisuit. Red jeweled gauntlets graced her wrists, and drew emphasis to her well-manicure nails. Padme had never seen a Jedi with a manicure before, and these nails were long and painted in the color of dried blood. At her side dangled a lightsaber, which screamed to the room that she was a Jedi Knight, and that she was a force to be reckoned with.

The most unnerving feature of the young woman was her eyes.

Padme tried not to stare at the dark pools that resided in the Jedi?s face, but the faint reddish tinge to the brown iris made it difficult not to stare. Taking note of Padme?s fascination the woman stared back, lips a thin line. Heat emanated from her, like a blast furnace, and it shocked the senator.

?May I welcome you all to my home world of Naboo, gracious beings.? Palpatine cooed to the audience. Of course all applauded, as was polite, despite the feelings of many Naboo that their once-beloved chancellor was abusing his rightfully gained power and turning it into something sinister and yet strangely enticing. The moth circling the flame.

?This is a time of uncertainty in the Great Republic. As many of you have guessed, unrest is spreading, like a virus? A malignant cancer that tries to undermine the great principals that we have all become accustomed to: Justice, liberty, and democracy!?

Palpatine sighed, and raises his reptilian hand to indicate the striking woman behind his left shoulder. ?This is Knight Kahlei J?Aartri. She has been loyal to the Republic and to me, guarding me from attack on several occasions. She is the epitome of what I expected of the Jedi. Fearless?Relentless. Above all, outstandingly loyal to me?And our Republic.?

A bite to these words, an implied attack on the Jedi and the loyalty of the citizens of the Republic. Who could honestly tell? The hidden meaning of these words would be mulled over caf, and meditated upon.

Padme wondered what Anakin thought, but his thoughts were surprisingly silent, which worried her to no end.

?Tonight we shall not dwell on the galaxy and her troubles. Nay, let us don our masks, and celebrate the harvest and the joys of life!? Palpatine concluded. He glanced to the Jedi behind him, who gratefully escorted him off the podium and into the thicket of people waiting for him. The power brokers and the sniveling fools who bartered their souls for political favor.

Padme felt ill watching them. Not one to vie for political favors from the head of the government, the influence peddlers could have this arena. A gloved hand grabbed her upper arm, spinning her around.

Here's our agressor Padme again, and she's the one doing the proposing! Very nice angle--having her be not only the seducer but the one doing the planning and proposing as well.

I liked seeing Anakin finally stand up and be honest by leaving the Order. Now he won't be pulled in two directions. I am worried about his Padawan though...she's already fuming and now she's going to blame Padme bc she will feel Anakin abandoned her.

Ah, a very happy ending for once! Those are so hard to find on these boards! I was expecting Kahlei to be more of a problem, but I'm happy to see she stayed quiet. And if it's not super steamy, I'm up for the PM version of chapter 14.

 

Wow, I wasn't expecting him to leave the order either. I'm glad they let him keep his lightsaber though, I have a feeling he is going to need it in the sequel.

The dancing scene was great and I loved Anakin's mask. I just hope he won't need the real version of it in subsequent stories.

A great ending to the story! I look forward to the sequel.
