I've spent a lot of time thinking and studying the Bible about the topic of heaven, and now I'm not sure that any man has seen heaven, with the possible exception of two - Enoch and Elijah.

First thing that comes to mind is the conversation between Jesus and the thief on the cross. Jesus tells him, "Verily I say unto thee, today you will be with me in paradise." We know that Jesus did NOT go back to heaven during the three days His body was in the tomb, so this "paradise" must refer to something else. The word is used again in Revelation, saying that whoever overcomes will eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God. Where was the tree of life? In the garden God planted in Eden.

Let's also look at what happens when Christ returns: at the sound of the trump of God, the dead in Christ rise, and us which are alive and remain will be caught away to meet the Lord in the air. AFTER this is the judgment, when men will either be cast into the lake of fire or enter into the Lord's rest. Does it make sense that people would die and go to heaven, then RE-INHABIT their bodies when Christ returns, and then be judged to enter heaven again? It doesn't to me.

I think paradise is something akin to the idea of Abraham's bosom, and when Jesus died He went and preached to the souls that dwelt there. It isn't heaven, but it's a place where we will go to await the judgment. And it must be a nice place (Luke 16:24-25).

I'll say with about 75% certainty yes.

 

At my families church last week the pastor went into a brief tirade on the movie and how it goes against EVERYTHING the Bible says. He told everyone to be careful of every new fad that comes out of Hollywood.

So this movie is the fault of the secular liberals at Hollywood.

 

Um... It's based on a book written by a pastor, though.

 

Rick Warren's a pastor. Is he anywhere near the teachings of the Bible?
