Looks sweet! I really like Hellboy, and am glad they're going ahead with a sequel even though the business for the first film was a bit underwhelming.

It looks like fun! A bit of a CGI overload, perhaps, but fun nonetheless! And a bit more slick than the first film.

It does look a bit more polished than the first film, based on the trailer- though it still has that sense of bland, personalityless medocirity than plagued the first film, unfortunately.

The first film is dripping with personality! That's one of its saving graces! I think I know what you mean, though, in terms of the filmmaking technique being lackluster (especially compared to Del Toro's other efforts, esp. Blade 2, which love it or hate it is a stunning tour de force of cinematic skill). But the characters of Hellboy are so engaging, and weird, and funny that you can't help be endeared to them, even if the movie itself is a little underwhelming.

Perhaps I was a bit too harsh- the characters do have personality, but the film as a whole seems to be lacking it.

Posters look great. Enjoying the trailers so far. I can't find my DVD of Hellboy though... I want to watch it before I see Hellboy 2.

I had to travel to nine video stores to find a copy of the original Hellboy. It's a movie I watched three times in theatres and twice rented, never actually bought it. Glad I did. First was pretty good. Nothing great, but definitely enjoyable action that doesn't feel like every other action or superhero film out there, and visually quite nice.

I went to see the second Hellboy movie yesterday with good expectations. I was disapointed. It wasn't a good movie at all.

It's the best gosh darn movie so far this summer by a long shot. Watching it, I couldn't help but think Iron Man - which had been my favorite up to this point - really only worked because of RDJ. But Hellboy II has better action, better music, better villains, it's funnier and darker overall, and it's far, far prettier a film. Seriously, the only thing that Iron Man has over Hellboy is RDJ.

I don't think that Hellboy will top Dark Knight on a good film/bad film level. But I suspect that I'll watch Hellboy II more than I'll watch The Dark Knight. We'll see.

Yeah... is it just me, or is this movie pretty freakin' awesome. I loved it! More than the Hulk, more than Wanted... maybe even more than Iron Man. It just hit me on every level.

Edit: Also, the Elf Prince (Can't recall his name). Best villain in a comics film so far this summer... at least for 3 more days...

Wasn't as good as the 1st installment. Was enjoyable though.

Nuada and his sister were great characters...A "villain" with honor is infinitely cooler than an anti-hero =)I know the actor voicing Abe was the same, but he sounded completely different and it ruined that character for me. The ecto guy was very funny if not a bit excessive. Liz was just as card board as she was in the 1st. Ron Pearlman is in fact Hellboy, he made a decent movie a little better.

The movies greater mythological storyline was really cool, and its introduction as a story told to a young Hellboy was neat. Absolutely loved the "indestible my a**" line at the end, referencing his question to his father.

The director is one of the most overrated "visionaries" of the modern film era, and needs to get some new material.

Nope, this time the actor in the suit voiced him.

(Abe was voiced by David Hyde Pierce [of Frasier fame] in the first film, but here he was voiced by the man in the Abe suit, Doug Jones [who also played Death]).

Hellboy II is a good film with some great scenes. I think cinematically it's a little superior to the first Hellboy, but it isn't quiiiite as engaging, partly because the novelty has worn off. The fight scenes are ultra-kinetic and stylish, an element lacking from HB1 (though present in spades in delToro's previous film, Blade II). There are some touching moments in this sequel, too, which the first film lacked. The love story is actually fairly interesting if you go in for that kind of thing (which I do). The villains are dangerous and compelling, with a visual flair that keeps your eyes glued to the screen. I do miss the human agents who were a substantial part of the first movie; here, except for Tambor, they're all just faceless monster fodder. I give the movie 3 stars, on par overall with the first HB. Repeat viewings with the inevitable DVD purchase may push that rating higher.

[EDIT: In other casting news, in case anyone missed this, Luke Goss, who played Nomak the uber-vampire in Blade II, is the baddie Prince Nuada here. I kept wanting to think it was Tom Cruise doing his Vampire Lestat schtick, and working incognito so as not to be accused of slumming... but no. It's Goss.]

Pretty good, I thought. I had fun watching it, and that's what's important.
