I think that learning Polish is more difficult than French. :)

The Terry Pratchett books are called "Les Chroniques du disque-monde" around here.

Lord of the rings is quite simply "Le Seigneur des anneaux".

And our longest word is "anticonstitutionnellement". But you'll have some trouble putting it in a sentence. It means "anticonstitutionally", I guess.

What poem do you want ? The one about the ring ("one ring to blablabla...") or the one which opens the movie, about the world changing ?

And I said that "Le Seigneur des anneaux" was quite a simple translation because even an automatic translator could have told you that.

I have a french language question: When using the word plutot in a sentence is it the same translation as "rather than?" For example, Elle est petite plutot grosse. Is that the correct way to use it?

It'd be "rather than" if you said "elle est petite plutôt QUE grosse ; otherwise, it means "she's short, quite fat".

"Starfish, I see you want to learn many languages"

Thats right, at least a little bit anyway. ;)

I would like to see the One Ring poem in French. :)

"One ring to rule them all, One ring to find them,
One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

Or if you want you can translate the rest of the poem.

    :)

    There you go. :)

I love [face_love] Lord of the Rings!

It'd be "rather than" if you said "elle est petite plutôt QUE grosse ; otherwise, it means "she's short, quite fat". :p I am glad to have your correction on that Twinne. I want to use it in the correct way.
I think Oryx was too busy writing french poems to help.... ;) Just kidding! :D

Kirtan_Loor, I start college in the fall, and at some point I hope to take a French class.

    Thanks for the poems Oryx.

How about the titles of the books

    The Hobbit
    The Fellowship of the Ring
    The Two Towers
    The Return of the King

I love Lord of the Rings also. :D

    Bilbo le hobbit

    La Communauté de l'Anneau
    Les deux Tours
    Le Retour du Roi

Except for "Bilbo" they are quite litteral translations...

Hmm we've made veri nice topic, as i see:)

Thx oryx for titles. Can you tell me how it would be in french:

Elves are wonderful. They provoke wonder.
Elves are marvellous. They cause marvels.
Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies.
Elves are glamorous. They project glamour.
Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment.
Elves are terrific. They beget terror

    From Discworld:)

It's probably impossible to translate this without changing drastically the meaning. The translator of the Discworld books in french is known to change lots of things by creating entirely new jokes. I don't have the books at home so I can't tell you how he did this one. Sorry.

Bonjour. I'm traveling to Paris next week (Oct 3 - Oct 7) for business and I have the afternoon of the 3rd and all day on the 4th and 6th to tour around. I plan on going to the Louvre on the 6th, probably for the whole day. I was curious as to if anybody could recommend any good sights I can check out during my remaining free time. Thanks!
