http://www.questoutreach.org/contest/ For every $10 you donate, you receive an entry for a chance to win an iPod Shuffle or a pair of Green Day Concert Tickets. Every $10 donated recovers $103.20 worth of food! Background Information about the organization: Quest Outreach Society's mandate is to rescue food from being sent to the landfills and redistribute it to those in need. In its 2003/2004 fiscal year, Quest collected 6.25 million dollars worth of food from 162 suppliers and provided food services (through its 80 GVRD Social Service Agency Partners) to over 40,000 people per each month. Our service area includes: * hot sit-down meals for homeless and street people in the Downtown Eastside; * food to over 80 outreach programs ranging from neighbourhood houses, women shelters, halfway houses, recovery centres, food banks, street youth, and school lunch programs; * emergency food hampers for individuals referred by social service agencies. Quest's service area extends throughout the lower mainland to include Burnaby, New Westminster,Richmond, Surrey, the Tri-cities, and Vancouver. Monetary donations are always needed to pay for products and services that are not donated. Your donation will be used to help: * lease our food warehouse on East Georgia Street; * purchase and repair warehouse equipment; * rent our freezer facility for food storage; * run our fully equipped kitchen; * operate and maintain our two one-ton trucks; * run our food pick-up dispatch center. In a real sense, Quest also serves an environmental purpose. In 2003/04, Quest recycled over 6.25 million dollars worth of food (fresh vegetables and fruit, meat and fish, baked goods, staples, etc.) that would have otherwise ended up in landfills. There is a sad irony in this: despite millions of tons of perfectly good food being discarded each year, people are still going hungry. Please help out, guys! I don't know if this allowed here, if it is it would be muchly appreciated if a mod could sticky it. The Green Day concert that the tickets are for is here in Vancouver, and will be on Sept. 27th.
