Here you go everyone, this is my first Obidala, I hope you like! :D

    *****

The fabric was dull and rough, the texture abrasive. Hardly fit wrapping for a child. But perhaps the tenderness in which Obi Wan Kenobi swaddled the two babies, boy and girl would make up for the roughness of the fabric.

Their innoccent little faces were peaceful as only a childs could be, their little eyes closed. But Obi Wan knew what those eyes would look like if they were open.

Big and blue, filled with a purity that seemed uncorruptable, untouchable. Just like their fathers. It was rather ironic that they would have inherited eyes that promised so much, but in their fathers case failed to deliver on that promise.

Obi Wan sighed heavily, runing a weary hand over his eyes and through his beard. If only their eyes had been like their mothers. Like Padme. Then at least he would have had the consolation of seeing her eyes mirrored in anothers, had the hope that some part of her would not die.

Perhaps it had been to much to hope. Everything else he loved was gone, why not every last trace of her to?

At last the twins, Luke and Leia were wrapped warmly and securly for their journey, the last one they would make together. There was something fundamentally wrong about seperating these two, who already seemed like two seperate halves of eachother, differnt sides to the same mirror.

It could not be helped, they could not stay together, no matter how much he might wish it. It was essential in order to insure their survival. With Vader, that horrorable warped parody of their father hunting them, there was no choice but to hide them.

He touched one tiny dimpled cheek. Luke, so quiet, serene for a small child, sometimes he looked at those eyes and felt like they saw to much for one so young. When he grew, he would be the image of Padme, if not in looks, then in spirit.

Obi Wan ran a tender finger over one downy dark haired head. Leia. This one was anything but quiet, she seemed to feel everything with a fierce intensity, when she wanted something, she wanted it now. She would have her mothers looks and her fathers personality, he was sure of it.

Gathering them up in their seperate bundles, he pulled the hood of his cloak over his head, shrouding his face in shadow.

He always had to creep about like this anymore, hide from the world. Just like he had that night....

That night, that last night. It was burned into his memory like the glow of a lightsaber in a dark room. Even when he closed his eyes, it was still there.

It had been raining, storming with a almost frightening intensity, he'd pulled his cloak over his eyes, clutching it to him to shield himself from the rain, and from prying eyes. Anakin's eyes.

Ah yes, that was where the guilt lay. His padawan had loved Padme, loved her with the absolute focus as he did everything else. Loved her despite the jedi code. Obi Wan had rediculed him for it, for betraying the order in such a way.

Really he was agonizing inside with the realization that his padawan had done what he had never had the courage to do. He'd married Padme, claimed her for his own.

Obi Wan had been suppressing the same impulse for years, from the time they'd escorted a young and brave queen home to her people on a planet in seige.

But trying to crush his own feelings by pounding himself with the code, with training and ethics had not worked. No, instead of withering, the pounding in his heart, the wonder he felt at even the barest hint of her presence had grown, until it filled him. It had felt like every principle he had built his life upon, the life of the jedi, was being mocked.

So he had refused to listen to his heart, running away, instead of twoard Padme. Retreating. Anakin hadn't.

Obi Wan had been forced to watch Anakin living the life he wanted for himself.
Jealous was a bitter drink, and its taste lingered.

That night he had felt the d

She'd loved him, but not him for himself. She'd loved the love he represented, the unconditional love, the way he'd accepted her children, and her.

She loved the fact there were no dark hidden shadows in him, that for once

Oh beautiful Obidala viggie, Princess :_| Simply beautiful :_|

    I really like that :)

It's very sad, but then Obidala often is. Unless it's AU, the stuff can't have a happy ending...

messicat: Oh my gosh, I missed your reply for months! Bad me! Anyway...thanks, I am glad you liked it, that was one of my favorite lines too. :) I know what you mean, Obidala is almost always sad, simply because unless you go waaaaaay EU, its sort of doomed. And I have divied allegiance, because I am both a ani/ami and Obidala fan. Is that possible? lol ;)

:D Well Opal, it's no shame anymore to admit you love Obidala. It would have been bad to admit a year ago before I came to the boards and created the Obidala and Sabewan Fanfic Index, the largest Obidala fanfic archive next to Restless. And I run it, and update often. You should check it out.

    End of plug.
