Okay, I've seen the first nine episodes. Something I'll add for this thread's unofficial rules:
When you're highlighting (covering up a spoiler), make sure you write before it what episode you're referring to, if it's not obvious.

Example: I love the quote from episode 9: "You've got to embrace your inner freak." - Zach.

I don't have a favourite character as of yet, maybe Ando. I am curious to see if [ep 9 spoiler] Hiro speaks better English after 6 months in the past, and if Peter (under arrest and assumed to be Sylar) meets Audrey and Matt (with Peter and Matt having a telepathic conversation). Wow, Peter folded up like Origami after taking the plunge with Sylar!!

All this said, I'm stuck at Exodus in BSG, and would like to push on my viewing of that so that I'm not lagging behind in anything. But Heroes is just...so...gripping!

Third recap, with some additional notes.

First, my apologies for my mistakes in the last two recaps, I need to edit my work more thoroughly.

Second, this Episode has a ?Previously on ?Heroes?? with Mohinder rather than Annoying Voice Over Man. Why, why, WHY didn?t they keep that??

    But with no further ado:

"Heroes" 1.03 - Chapter Three: "One Giant Leap"

When evolution selects its agents, it does so at a cost.

Makes demands in exchange for singularity, and you may be asked to do something that?s against your very nature?

Suddenly the change in your life that should have been wonderful comes as a betrayal.

It may seem cruel, but the goal is nothing short of self-preservation.

    Survival.

This week?s Chapter Title is stamped on the side of Niki?s car door, as the camera pans up to see Micah still sleeping and her still digging in the desert on the outskirts of Las Vegas.

After the slight backtrack of her discovering the bodies in the large grave (I love how they show a little bit of what happened last time before moving along with the story, reminds me of old ?Doctor Who?), she finds a skull ring on one of the corpses? fingers. I?ll note that it looks like these corpses have been here for a while; I?m not sure how quickly a body decomposes in a shallow grave in the Nevada desert, but I?d say a couple of months at least.

Taking the ring, she heads back to the car, ties her hair back and pops the trunk, settling in for a long night of grave digging.

In Odessa, Texas, Mr. Bennett pops his own trunk and pulls out the effigy of a football player with a noose around its neck. Looks like a rival team?s mascot, as Claire is talking about how there?s going to be a big party if the Wildcats (Union Wells? Gridiron team) win tonight, and as she?s head cheerleader, she has to be there.

As Mr Bennett helps his daughter carry the effigy into the school, he notices Brody and Claire exchange a look, and he starts grilling Claire on ?the Quarterback?.

?You really wanted to make me happy, you?d only date nerds, you know,? Mr. Bennett says. ?Well, it worked out very well for your mother!?

    Word.

Jackie comes over and starts flirting with Mr. Bennett. Vacuous tramp. He brings up her ?local hero? status, and she starts waffling about it and how it?ll be the cornerstone of her campaign for Class President and you can see in Mr. Bennett?s eyes that?s he?s totally switched his brain off during this. Eventually she walks off and Claire says goodbye to her father. Once again, the little exchange here shows off the love Mr. Bennett has for his daughter. I like that a supposedly villainous character can have healthy relationships, it doesn?t happen often enough.

In the Yamagoto Industries bullpen, Ando?s watching more of Niki?s webcam shows on the company?s time. Unless of course it is his job, like market research. However, he?s downloading it to his iPod, so maybe not. Unless he?s taking his work home with him. Regardless, Hiro bursts in; apparently Ando hasn?t seen him in two days. Hiro tells him what happened, and again, Ando is sceptical. Hiro?s got a trump card now though, the 9th Wonders comic chronically his adventures in New York. AND the conversation he and Ando are having right now!

Ando?s still a little sceptical, but Hiro offers to prove it to him. Suddenly his watch?s alarm beeps; they have to leave right now, as a girl?s life is in danger.

After the titles, Peter?s back on something high looking down. He falls?

?off the monkey bars and into the dirt. Repeatedly. While a fat kid in a cape eating an ice cream watches unimpressed.

Sidetrack: I always loved the scene in the pilot of ?The Greatest American Hero? where the little boy teaches Ralph how to take off properly after seeing him doing it wrong.

Meanwhile, Nathan?s picking ties and discussing fundraiser arrangements. Peter comes in and starts with the embarrassing flight talk whilst Nathan?s all ?ixnay on the lyingfay!? Peter pulls out Professor Chandra Suresh

    Excellent as ever, Magnus.

I just watched ep 10, and damn. The title is actually a spoiler, so I shan't mention it, but it's a brilliant concept for an episode, and once again the series claims the crown for best narrative use of time travel ever.

Also, there are some major-league plot developments on show, and in the spirit of celebrating the speculation we've all been engaging in, I'm going to hand out a few points, as I found myself keeping score throughout the episode. MAJOR episode 10 spoilers:

+1 point to myself, for being completely certain that Sylar was NOT secretly someone we'd already met, but a completely new character.

+1 point to IC, for picking that Nathan's wife's accident involved more than just a car crash, and was the reason that Nathan refused to fly anymore.

+1 point to Magnus, for correctly predicting Mr Petrelli senior's mob connections.

    Kudos, people.

This is a fantastic episode that I am very much looking forward to rewatching at TehBoon tomorrow (or such is the plan).

    Cursed slow downloads...

And sweet googa-mooga, that was awesome.

Okay, while I was sure there was more to the Petrelli car accident than was stated, I'd never have picked that it resulted in the first manifestation of Nathan's powers. Kudos to IC for picking that one. I think my issue is that in the original Pilot, Nathan is emphatic when he says he doesn't know how he's flying when he catches Peter.

Two lines really jumped out at me; Jackie's "Lori Trammel skanked her way through the entire football team" was just tragic, and I'm sure if there's a heaven, Chandra is regretting "If the soul exists, scientifically speaking, it exists in the brain."

Now I'm really curious; how and why was Mr. Bennett already involved with tracking down heroes? I loved the scene in Chandra's apartment between Chandra and Mr. Bennett; it would have been interesting to see them work together. Finally, Mr. Bennett's motivation for getting Claire off that list is interesting; I think that while he's obviously trying to protect his daughter, its from something we haven't seen coming yet.

I was kinda hoping McPixie's powers wouldn't work on Parkman. Ah well. Also interesting to see that up until 6 months ago, Parkman's marriage was happy, so his depression must be what lead to his marital breakdown.

Sylar's a kind of evil we haven't seen in a while. I was going to compare him to Magneto as well, but his desire to find his place in the world, and the lengths he'll go to cement it are more akin to the main villain in Unbreakable. I'm still curious as to what his inherent ability actually is though; he said he could hear that Davis was "broken". Could it be that he can detect heroes like Parkman and Sprague before they were augmented by Mr. Bennett and the Haitian, but instead of empowering them, he just takes their abilities? Or is his power just that he can take their abilities?

Finally, Hiro. Poor, sweet Hiro. And poor, sweet Charlie. It's terrible that the really nice people always get gakked in these sorts of things. But she served her purpose, and Hiro now understands the ramifications and limitations of his powers. Still, rumour doing the rounds is that Hiro did save Charlie from Sylar, and that if she didn't die from the bloodclot (though the shrine to her in the Burnt Toast Diner says otherwise) she may still be around. Though since the final shot of her is still her death at Sylar's hands, it may all be bunk.

Still, I hope she's alive, or will at least return in flashback. We need more nice, sweet characters on TV.

Finally, I found some promos for the final episode of this year:

The American teaser, which has Peter running around dressed like Sylar??

The Canadian teaser, which has Hiro asking the $64,000 question, and confirming one of the pet theories put forward by BBN.

Ah, if I had Hiro's abilities, I'd jump forward to see the next episode right now :p

    Be seeing you,

That's what I'd do with Hiro's powers, too, Magnus. :D

And yeah, poor Hiro and Charlie. So sad. But on the bright side, I'm excited that we've got a fairly clear idea now of the rules of time travel in this universe. Hiro is maturing very well as a superhero, and learning a lot of valuable lessons.

Next week's looks so awesome. Everything and everyone is coming together now.

    Nice episode :D

Charlie had best not be dead. I really liked her character

I also still don't get Sylar's power. When we were first introduced I just thought he had super hearing or something, but that doesn't explain the power taking (I hope it's brain eating :D )

Also, I don't get Peter's power. He definatly has Power mimicry but is he also a pre-cog?

    Bad Sammich! No biscuit! :p

    But regarding your comments...

As I said before, why do the sweet ones always die? Then again, that bitch Jackie copped it, so I can't complain too much. I was also howling for Janice's head at one point, but after seeing "Six Months Earlier", I'm a little more sympathetic.

Sylar's power seems to be able to detect heroes on some level, and "fix" them perhaps, on another. His ability to fix watches so effortlessly seems to be a manifestation of his power, much like Micah's technopathy. I've read that he may simply have the same power suite as Peter, but he's discovered a way to retain their powers permanently with the brain eating.

Peter's a power duplicator with a mild telepathic link to his brother. Thats the story I'm sticking with until I'm told otherwise. There also seems to be some limits to how he can use other people's powers; Claire's he could use passively, yet he didn't try to utilise Sylar's telekinesis.

One other point I forgot to bring up in my last post: anyone else think it odd that in the brief time between Sylar storming out of Chandra's apartment and him gaining telekinesis that Chandra lost all his pull in the scientific community? While he was regarded as a pariah back home, it just seemed a little too quick, and I wonder if Mr. Bennett had anything to do with it.

I'll try to recap Episode 4 either tonight or tomorrow.

Regarding Peter: the possibility occurred to me that his prophetic dreams may be as a result of bonds he forms with people, as a weird sort of byproduct of his power. He gains people's abilities, and also forms bonds with them, affording him glimpses of what might be happening to them. It's just a thought.

And yeah, someone black out Sambo's spoilers. :p

    Ahhh Sambo!!! bad boy!!!

*sigh* thankfully I had the will power to quickly glance past it!

Ok so yesterday as well as watching up to ep 6 of BSG (Which I need the rest of!!) I watched all 9 eps of Heroes. Ye god's it's a great show! I totally can't wait for the next one!

I was hooked straight away, and it's such a great show I shall be telling everyone of it! It's weird though, because so many of the characters are so familiar, having seen them in other shows, I'm trying to place them. I shall be looking up IMDB defiantely!
There's Matt who played Weismann in Alias [face_love]
The FBI chicka - though I can't place her.
Clare - can't place her either
    Eden - again, can't place
Micah - I think he was in my wife and kids, he's a musical genius child if I remember correctly
Nathan - He's so familiar, and I know he was in a show I loved, so why can't I place him!!

So far I *love* Matt. As soon as I saw him, I was like *heart* :p I always loved Weismann in Alias. And I absolutely love his power! Gosh I'd love to have that power! I'm also a big fan of Clare. She annoyed me at first, but now I've grown to like her alot. And of course, PEter the sweetie, can't help but love him. Hiro is defiantely so cool! It's so hard to choose a favourite, because I love most of them. Though Nikki is starting to really annoy me.

As for Mr Bennet, at first I thought he was so creepy. But I really do like the whole loving daughter relationship. It's nice to see that perhaps he isn't so bad after all, and that he really does love his duaghter. I'm starting to wonder if perhaps he isn't so bad after all, but perhaps his methods are a little iffy. I guess I'll find out.

Okies, so this is brilliant,a nd I can't wait for the next one!!

Well you know who Greg Grunberg is, so moving on.

FBI Agent Audrey Hanson is played by Clea Duvall. The two roles I remember her most for are her one episode stint on "Buffy" as the Invisible Girl in Season 1, and her major role in "Carnivale" as Sofie the Tarot Reader.

Claire Bennett is played by Hayden Panettiere. I've not seen her in anything (and frankly I'd probably feel dirty if I did), but the biggest credits I could find for her are Racing Stripes and The Ice Princess.

Eden McCain is played by Nora Zehetner, and I know and love her from Brick. She was also in a show called "Everwood".

Micah Sanders is played by Noah Gray-Cabey, and yes he was in "My Wife and Kids". His other big credit is The Lady in the Water.

Adrian Dunbar plays Nathan Petrelli, and he was originally the awesome Dr Declan Dunn in the far too shortlived "Mysterious Ways". He's also appeared in "Desperate Housewives" and "Judging Amy".

I'll also say, Niki's storyline has annoyed me the most. I haven't really warmed to the character since the first episode. Claire at least has shown some positive character development in my opinion.

    Anyway...

"Heroes" 1.04 - Chapter Four: "Collision"

Okay, again, Mohinder's doing the "Previously..." Maybe it's just the copies I'm getting? Regardless, his opening narration this time around:

Sometimes questions are more powerful than answers. How is this happening? What are they? Why them and not others? Why now? What does it all mean?

The man was hired for his voice. He could lead a cult.

Matt Parkman wakes up in a UV bathed room, linked up to many monitoring devices. The caption for him helpfully lists his location as "Unknown".

Mr. Bennett is standing over him, and apologises for drugging him. Matt realises he's not in a hospital and tries to get up, but finds he's strapped in. Mr. Bennett tries to calm Matt down, saying they're testing his "resting rate", which could be anything. Matt demands to know which agency has detained him; Mr. Bennett's cryptic response is that he doesn't work for any agency with initials, so that cancels out the big three.

Mr. Bennett goes on to call Matt "special", and Matt tried to read his mind. The monitors go ballistic, but Mr. Bennett seems to be shielded by the large black man seen previously in the bar. Mr. Bennett calls him special too.

Matt continues struggling, and Mr. Bennett assure him that by tomorrow, none of what he sees here will matter. He starts to walk away when Matt asks, "Who's Claire?"

Mr. bennett and his companion are a little shocked by this, Mr. Bennett stating that Matt's "further along than we thought." He then tells the black man to "Go deep, the clean him out." Mr. Bennett leaves as the black man kisses the Symbol around his neck, then looms over Matt. The last thing we hear is Matt's scream.

In Las Vegas, Hiro and Ando have arrived at one of the casions on the Strip. Hiro's tried to call Isaac again and left messages in Japanese. He looks in his phrasebook to find out how to say "You're going to die in five weeks then New York will explode." Ando says it to him in perfect English, then offers to teach it to Hiro phonetically. Ando then goes to hit the tables, as he's feeling lucky.

As Hiro follows behind him, Niki and Micah Sanders pass by them. The cop from last episode is escorting them up to the office of Miss Sakamoto, the manager of Mr. Linderman's casino. Miss Sakamoto tells Micah to wait outside, then offers Niki a deal; help us to blackmail a visiting New York politician, and we'll cancel the debt. Niki protests that she's not a whore, but she knows she has no choice at this point.

The Chapter Title's displayed on an unidentifiable surface.

That's until the coroner's scapel comes into view and makes an incision into it.

The coroner's performing the autopsy on Claire Bennett, and in her notes she records that the Jane Doe was pulled out of Redriver Creek at 4 a.m. after being dragged there. She'd been stripped, and it was conclud

    Oooh thanks for that M_D.

Turns out Clea Duvall is from Girl, Interrupted. She plays the chicka who loves The Wizard of Oz. I can't remember what was wrong with her though. But she's also in the faculty, can't hardly wait, and CSI.

Hayden Panettiere, I recognised her from Ice PRincess. She plays the champion Ice-skating daughter of the coach chicky, who doens't really wnat to be a champion ice-skater but it only doing it because her ex-champion ice-skating mother/coach wants her to. In the end she brefirned Michelle Trachenberg (known from Buffy) and helps her to succeed as a champion. hooray! good movie :D

As for Mora, I've never seen Brick, but I have seen a few eps of everwood, so it could have been from that. Other than that, I don't know, she's very familiar, but I don't recognise any of her credits hmmmm.

Noah, yes I knew him from My wife and kids, haven't seen lady int eh water. And I was right, he is a genius. He was on Ripley's believe it or not once, he's an absolute musical genius, can play things by ear, having heard them only once (and I'm talking concerto, etc) and I'm pretty sure he's actually alreayd graduated school and stuff. If I remember correctly.

And yes, I recognised Adrian from both mysterious ways and judging amy. Actually, the other chick from mysterious ways who was his lab assistant has played a doctor in SG1, and also plays one of the caprica buccaneers rescued in BSG, and she was one of the circle.

So I totally need ep 10!!!

ok I have some theories too...

It seems that everyone's powers are only suddenly being awoken. So I'm wondering if perhaps Mr Bennet is helping with this. Either him or Sylar. I'm really starting to questions whether he is a bad guy. Coz he seems to be after Sylar too, so perhaps he's a good guy, he's just using totally the wrong methods. To me it just seems totally weird that all these people are suddenly getting their powers. It's like something has woken them up all of a sudden.

Actually it kinda annoys me that so many people are having powers. Doesn't it seem a little strange that Nikki, JD and Micah all have powers? I found that a little too annoying. Of course, according to Mr Bennet, they've been finding these people for at least 14 years (the parents of Clare). But perhaps they're doing something to search out people witht he possibility of having powers, and awakening the powers, where they might not have been awakened.

And yes, I'm still confused about Peter. He seems very much the 'rogue' type character. He doens't really have a power coz he steals them off others.

Of course, I could be wrong, considering I haven't seen the next ep yet :p

Eh, I don't mind Niki's storyline. I guess it's the weakest in the series, but that hardly makes it bad, considering the general quality. :p I'm still actually really hoping she ends up being a villain, or at least Jessica ends up being one. That would be a nice twist, I think. Because we still don't know what role she's going to play in the big picture. Most of the others we can figure out, but Niki, DL and Micha are all conspicuously separate thus far from the main narrative.

Nathan laps it up, and there's not a heterosexual man on the planet who can blame him.

    Guilty, your honour.

Interesting to note; some people have speculated that Niki's alter ego was her husband or either Micah controlling her. What she does with Nathan kinda throws those theories out the window. Thank Buddha.

Well as of episode 10 we know what the deal with Jessica is, and it's not a happy story.

Okay, so wow. Chapter 11, Fallout. I can't believe we have to wait a full MONTH for the next one. I don't think I'll make it... :_|

Who is Mr Bennett working for?
    What is the Hatian's agenda?
What the frak is going on with Peter's dreams? I dismissed them initially, but the last couple of episodes has convinced me that there's something deeply significant going on. Does this one come true? IS he the bomb? How? Why? ARGH!

Hiro's right. He so needs to find that sword. Oh man. :D

And poor Eden. At least Sylar didn't get her power. THAT would have been bad. But I'm sad, I was really beginning to like her.

And poor Zach and Claire, too. That's so unfair, what they did to him.

You know a show is good when you scream with frustration at the end of the episode, wanting more.

    McPixie!! NOOOOOOO!!!

Well the hotness quotient just dropped again. But damn, she was a trooper; took the character in completely the other direction I was expecting. I also liked how the Haitian agreed with her about what should be done about Sylar.

I also recommend for those keeping up with it, that you read chapter 11 of the Heroes Graphic Novel; it involves Mr. Bennett visiting Eden's father, and if it remains canon (I hope it does, given Sylar's situation in it) it raises my esteem for Mr. Bennett's character by several notches again. And if you haven't been reading them, start now. Chapter 7 is so far my favourite, but this latest is damned cool as well.

So Charlie did get killed by Sylar. Bugger.

Given the new evidence, I have to modify my theory on Peter's powers; the empathic link isn't just with his brother. Along with sharing their powers, perhaps he gains some insight into their destiny as well. But why was he sick? I at first assumed internal injuries that didn't heal, but something else is wrong with him. Radiation poisoning via empathic connection??

The man in the dream is either Peter, Sylar, or Sprague, aka "Radioactive Man". By the clothes, I'm guessing Sylar, which would implay he finally bit off more than he could chew.

Hiro better find that sword, and damn quick. Hell, I want a copy of that painting. One thing to note; Godzilla was originally a metaphor for the nuclear attacks on Japan at the end of the Second World War; could Uluru (or was it a different creature in the painting) be a metaphor for the nuclear destruction of New York? Unlikely, given Isaac hasn't worked in metaphor before, but it's worth pointing out.

I think I let out a whoop when Isaac opened his eyes; and Hiro and Ando's reaction was just as cool.

Matt's situation is interesting; the Haitian can now fully block him, and it was interesting that putting a psychic near Peter is like putting a microphone too close to the speaker.

I think Mr. Bennett is the one decent guy left in his organisation with Eden gone. But who is he working for? And yeah, just what is the Haitian's agenda?? I don't believe Mr. Bennett sent him to erase Zach and Lyle's memories, so I reckon he's trying to turn Claire against her father. But why?

Six weeks 'til we get answers. We'll get it in our hands on the 23rd of January. When does HappyBob get back from Japan? As I think a marathon should occur before that date. Only time I'm aware of not being free in January currently is the 8th, but that's a Monday, so it's moot.

And for those who care: "Heroes" 1.12 - "Godsend" Trailer.

Well, unless HappyBob's vising NeecH on his way home, I don't think he's going to be in Japan... ;) Paris is where our Rubber Chicken-toting colleague be.

Can't wait to see Episode 11. I hope Hiro is more upbeat about his abilities than where it was left in Ep 10.

Speaking of... NeecH, you watching this show?

    It's the 23rd? :_| I heard that it was the 1st of Jan. :(

HappyBob gets back on the 7th, and is dead-keen on being force-fed this show. I myself am dead keen on a marathon too. I'm holding back on re-watching the old episodes, because I very much want to see them again, and figure it'll be fun to do it with the group.

I was going to start reading the graphic novels last night, but didn't end up having time. I will start tonight, on Magnus's recommendation.

And yes, just for the record, I screamed at "To be continued" also. God DAMN.
