On Endor and in the space around the Death Star II, battles between huge armies and fleets are occuring. However, the true battle is between three men.

Who is the first person we see in the classic blue hologram?

    Darth Sidious.

    Who is the second?

    Palpatine.

A subtle hint to the true Phantom Menace. He's really a phantom, glowing blue and fading in and out.

"You have become the very evil that you swore to destroy."

Anakin, in his quest to destroy all evil and creat a utopia, became Darth Vader. The Republic was created to prevent the Sith from ever returning to power and yet it was through the Republic that the Sith returned to power.

In the Phantom Menace, Darth Maul rides his hovercycle across the plains of Tatooine. A darksider on a mission.

In Attack of the Clones, Anakin rides his hovercycle across the plains of Tatooine. To Duel of the Fates, Darth Maul's duel theme no less.

Darth Vader is a ruthless general and warrior on the outside but on the inside he's a depressed cripple. The Emperor is a frail old man on the outside but on the inside he's a powerful sorcerer.

Vader= strong on the outside but weak on the inside, The Emperor = weak on the outside but strong on the inside.

A friend once argued that the choking of Padme is when Anakin truly "became Vader" because in that scene his goal changed from "save Padme" to "rule the galaxy."

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but I there's a subtle arc for Anakin throughout the films.

In TPM, he's been a slave most of his life, subservient to Watto. He doesn't have his own freedom.

Then, Qui-Gon arrives, and ends up freeing him. But Anakin himself didn't accomplish this, it was all Qui-Gon's manipulating Watto.

Anyway, Anakin is technically free here. Qui-Gon isn't his master at this point. Everything's going well for Anakin.

Then Maul kills Qui-Gon, shattering Anakin's destiny.

Obi-Wan becomes Anakin's 'master', and he essentially becomes a slave again to the Jedi, not 'able to do the things you like, or be with the people that he loves'.

In ROTS, he moves to a new master, to try and free himself. He thinks that he can overthrow Palpatine, to ensure his freedom.

In the end though, he ends up more a slave than ever, trapped in the Vader suit and totally loyal to Palpatine's will.

Throughout his entire life he's been a slave.

It's only in ROTJ, when he frees himself by killing Palpatine, that he's finally free and redeemed. The one act of true agency he had, and he finally brings balance to the force.

Vader sets out to save the one he loves at the expense of the people of the galaxy. Lando protects the people of Cloud City at the expense of his friends.

Han's freezing in carbonite visually resembles Vader receiving his iconic armor.

    The Phantom Menace:

Panaka: "Red group, blue group... everybody this way."

    Return of the Jedi:

Lando: "Red group, Gold group, all fighters follow me."

The parallels between Naboo in AOTC and Cloud City in ESB. Both are apparent paradises away from the action, but Naboo is natural while Cloud City is technological and Naboo truly is a safe haven while Cloud City is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise reflects what will become of the Jedi later in ROTS. The Jedi could influence others to create life (Sifo-Dyas got the Kaminoans to create the clones). The Jedi were so powerful that the only thing they were afraid of was loosing their power. Unfortunately, the Jedi taught their apprentice Anakin and the clones who served them everything they knew, and then when they least expected it, Anakin and the clones turned on them and wiped them out.

Obi-Wan begins his Jedi Knighthood in response to the death of his mentor and ends his Jedi Knighthood as a dying mentor.

Wasn't he on the council in RotS? or was he just there? either way, Anakin is knight which means Obi finished his path to that of Master.

Most people seem to make a distinction, although I really couldn't care either way, as that is simple semantics, but when you said knighthood, i thought you meant he was "mastering" the force when he ghosts in ANH.

Ironically, Anakin and the Jedi Council fall for the same reason: They seek to impose what they think is best on others.

Well, even if they didn't try to be guardians of the galaxy, I doubt they would have survived, but it is interesting. Also, Anakin is personal, and The Council is impersonal, a bit of a dichotomy.

In Attack of the Clones, during Anakin and Padme's discussion in the Meadow, Anakin says that the senators should be kept in line by someone 'wise'.

In Revenge of the Sith, what does story does Palpatine use to subtly tempt Anakin? The tragedy of Darth Plagueis the 'wise'.

Believing Palpatine to be defenseless, Anakin cuts off Windu's arm, allowing Palpatine to blast Windu out the window with Force Lighting. When telling Luke that it's time to confront Vader and Palpatine, Yoda says, "Do not underestimate the power of The Emperor, or suffer your father's fate you will."
