The Sith lords were NOT communist. Although I hate the ideals of communism, it is not in itself evil, and should not have led itself to the Totalitarian regimes we saw in socialist Russia, Cuba, and China. Sidious and the other sith lords held no communist ideals. "The weak exist to serve the strong." is a statement that Karl Marx would have gagged on. His idea was more "Everyone exists to serve everyone." The Sith and true communism are very much polar opposites.

I tried to search for this thread, to no avail, so I wound up posting a new thread on the subject. So the mods led me over here. All's well that ends well.

Chewbacca would be Japanese chu-baka or half-stupid.
Jedi is Japanese jetai for soldier.

Because of Lucas's liberal leanings, Red probably represented Republicanism

Of course, the 2004 Prezelectioin Saber colors were inverted (in a similar manner to which you described), from the standard "meanings" (i.e. blue=Rebublican & red = Democratic); to "invert" the standard "Conservative" "truism": i.e. "Better Deadt than Red!!"

    Red States are now Blue,

And Blue States are now Red...

    "Proceed with Order 66"
In the bible, (revelations, specifically) the number representing the devil, or the beast is 666, and the beast will come shortly after the end of time, like order 66 at the end of the republic.

MOYERS: And does your use of red suggest the flames of hell?

LUCAS: Yes. It's a motif that I've been using with the Emperor and the Emperor's minions. I mean, red is an aggressive color. Evil is aggressive.

Does the use of the space battle behind Anakin's and Obi-Wan's duel with Dooku (In RotS) fit on this thread?

Go watch the scene again, paying close attention to which dialogue is going on during which events outside.
It matches quite well, for example, when Dooku taunts Anakin, the Seperatist ships are pursuing Republic ships - the theme of fear.
When Sidious is convincing Anakin to kill Dooku the Republic ships in the background are dominating - foreshadowing that Anakin's actions are strengthening the Empire.

Maybe there is a thread on this but I can't find it. But it seems that in the Star Wars universe, like in horror films, people who have sexual relations are punished for it. I'm thinking specifically of Han getting frozen and Anakin. I really think Lucas has created a universe in which celibacy (yeah, I know the Jedi aren't technically celibate) is rewarded and sex is punished. This of course is also a reason there is the stereotype of Star Wars fans as not being successful in the romance department. I think people unsucessful in love find this comforting (and I'm one of them so I'm not bashing).

    >>>> does this also happen in ROTJ with the battle raging outside while sidious tries to sway luke?

What IS notable Wolvo, is that up until the moment that Luke stops using the dark side against his father, and throws down his saber, the rebels are having their asses whupped on Endor and in the space battle. When Luke throws down his saber, and gives Anakin his final lesson, the balance of the Force shifts.

The battle turns, on Endor and in space.

^^^Better than anything I could have come up with. Although this seems more TPM related than ROTS to me.

[face_laugh] That's a pretty unique view of the duel. I like it. Laughed out loud at "and the Irish gets the worst of it."

    I try.

I?m predominantly Irish and I research genealogy and history for fun so I can say with some confidence that the Irish are always getting screwed over by the Scots and the English. The Scots have never been happy with the fact that we prefer Irish Whiskey over Scotch. The English are on a different level; if they aren?t selling the Irish into slavery in the New World they are starving them to death.

I have a great deal of English blood (and an English name) as well so I guess I?m supposed to hate myself.

Many speculated (and still do) that there was a strong parallel between Palpatine?s Empire and the English Empire on the one hand and the Rebel Alliance and American Revolutionaries on the other. One must admit that many in the Empire (particularly in the OT) have English accents. George lightened up on the English in TPM, but I think he snuck in that symbolism in the LS dual to remind viewers that he still thinks the English are evil. Of course I could just be reading way too much into it. What am I saying? Obviously I?m reading too much into it; I?m on the JC Forums.
