My German is not good enough for me to ask this in your language. I am trying to learn German and would like some help. My friend Sabine is trying to helping me. I was wondering if there is a place already on here that could help me? Thank you for any help you can give me. :)

I am an American student currently studying German language in Germany. If you like, I could give you my AIM name (if you have AIM) and we could work on German together...

Thank you Strilo. Unfortunately I don't have AIM. Your screen name seems familiar for some reason. [face_thinking]

I recommend German-language magazines & newspapers if you can get some. You might not understand everthing, but I'm sure you have a dictionary ;) and what's more important, you'll get a feeling for the language in general. ;)

Magazines and newspapers are a bit to heavy for the start. Even for someone who knows some few words. :)

I'm studying German at A-level and I reckon a course is the best way to study it, it helps me focus more personally. There are loads of German websites around though and they are great when you know a bit more because you still get the gist of things even if you don't know every word

    Good Lcuk, German's cool! :D

    No problem. ;)
There were others, but some are now more or less social ones or already locked so yours is the most actual. :)

just yesterday I was reminded again that "actual" is a 'false friend', because it doesn't mean the same thing as the German look-alike ;)

of course, I forgot what to say instead. in this case, I'd opt for "most recent", which still doesn't mean the same thing, wouldn't earn me any points in a test, but is good enough for this purpose, imho :p

Sabine is right. Newspapers and magazines are still difficult for me and I've been studying the language for years. I agree that some sort of language course is the best way to go. Even if it is some CD-Rom package or an online thing.

Flo, Senny is right about your use of "actual." :p I would also choose the most recent, or perhaps the most relevant.

If I was to pick up a German magazine or newspaper,I would be able to make out the date on it and maybe a couple of words. Other than that,I would be [face_hypnotized].

It goes both directions and has enough voab around to be really useful.
    Don't look for slang there.
