After the OVERWHELMING success of our little pride and prejudice read 'n' view, is any interested in having a crack at reading Hitchhikers and then going along for a veiw on or about April 28 (ie when it opens)?

I understand of course that there are probably more than a few people out there who have already read the book - I've started it on more than one occassion myself - and anyone totally uninterested in reading but keen on viewing is also very welcome.

    More reading! :)

Actualy I'm not sure I could sit through reading it. Never really read any sci-fi, or comedy sci-fi even. Got about 2 chapters into Red Mars I think and realised that it wasn't for me really.

I would love to go see it though, as watched the BBC version as a kid.

Of course if there's going to be an exam or an asignment worth over 30% on the book then I will of course read it.

ditto Red Mars. But I've read the 2 original Red Dwarf novels a few times, and I love them.

Bit like star wars, where the whole sci fi thing is just the stage.

BTW the da vinci code is supposed to be coming out next year (tom hanks starring, ron howard directing) so that gives us heaps of time to tackle the much-larger novel if we keep up this read 'n' view thing :p

I'm sorry you guys couldn't get into the Mars trilogy, but I know not all books are for everyone. Take me with Pride and Prejudice.. :p

But I'm interested in this Book/Movie concept. I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I do read a lot but I don't read books very often. I prefer to see the movie version first, usually. That way I can get the gist of it and if I'm interested can go off and read further into it.

Nyder: Take Jurassic Park for instance. The movie was great, the book even better! Different people got eaten! :p

I just watched the trailer to Hitchhiker's, it looks fairly good. Might read the book first though.

Goob - Dr Hammond? The guy with the white beard who owns Jurassic Park. I really liked his death. And his character was different in the books.

They turned John Hammond's death into the death of Deiter in lost world.

But then we're not really talking about jurassic park.

the books don't currently seem to be available from discount retailers however a movie tie-in version is due to be released a few days after the movie which I would assume will be (aren't they all).

    Short answer: no.

    "Straight", even?

28th of April you say? I'm out. Unless this attendance is on the weekend... [face_thinking]

Maybe I should limit the amount of GoobaFish you guys are going to be getting... a BBQ here, a RotS there...

There's no point in that, Goob. :p

I will go if someone posts a time and meeting place. We need to see a pre-ROTS sci-fi movie. For TPM it was The Matrix, for AOTC it was (can't recall) and now it's Hitchhikers.. Something to take our mind off the anticipation for ROTS.
