I read these rules to Holochess long ago, and I was disappointed:

    http://dhost.info/rissa/Holochess/

Such rules, while able to replicate the little bit we saw in ANH, were hardly the rules of a strategic game. Far too much depended on luck and too little on piece positioning. But for a while it was all there was.

Later I found this set of rules, which does not appear to be as widely known:

    http://zeelay.free.fr/star-wars-artisanal/

These rules seemed too simplistic, but at least they led to a far more strategic game where a player was more likely to win by making better moves rather than by random values determined by the computer or dice. The author promised forthcoming advanced rules with piece specialization, but they did not show up for some time.

Eventually I emailed the author and he confessed that he'd actually completed such rules, but that he had not thoroughly tested them. He sent me a very attractive pdf file with the rules, but unfortunately they were only in French. He gave me permission to translate them, but since I do not speak French, I had to use Google translate and try to improve the English to sound. It proved to be too much of a challenge, but ultimately I received the assistance of a guy named Bewy at originaltrilogy.com. He translated the rules, and I improved the English. So here I wish to present to you the rules for Dejarik, matching the moves of the game in ANH, a game with strategic value and piece specialization. All credit for the rules goes to Igor Barzalai, and by posting this here I intend in no way to detract from his work. He deserves the credit. And Bewy did the heavy work for the translating and converting the French pdf to an English version. I deserve the least credit, but I too did contribute, but mainly what I want to do is advocate for a wider audience for this game. Igor wanted feedback on the advanced rules to see if they needed adjusting, so feel free to comment here.

Without further ado, Igor Barzalai's rules for Dejarik in English!
