This is an easy cop-out to bring back old characters if they so choose to use them.

They are certainly prominent in the EU.

Might we see some or at least one of these gems laying out some historical facts that were lost during the Empire?

Maybe name-dropping or introducing plot points like where a hidden artifact or macguffin might be located?

I would be up for some hardcore 'cronage...

I've always thought that a Star Wars plot that involved some ancient history might be interesting...

As long as they could do it without flashbacks. ;)

Nadd needs to become a household term.

Prefer Nadd set 4,000 year before Yavin in spirit form, but if him appearing in the ST leads to this Im all game for it. What I would give for Exar Kun, Ulic, and Nomi... it'd also make great set up for Revan and the Exile (though I'd hope they'd non cannonize TOR and give us a more fitting conclusion)

Plus Revan's holocron leads to Darth Bane

Holocrons? Yes. The PT actors are all still around and able to record lines, and it'd be an awesome way to connect PT, OT and ST. Plus, SLJ could finally get his role in the ST

^ This. Revan or Bane on screen would be freaking awesome.

Holocrons are cheap plot devices used by EU writers. Let's move on.

Detractors of the EU not withstanding, I think it would be a cool idea to include a holocron in the ST, and I trust it would be done well (and not just as a "cheap plot device").

Holocrons are cannon and made it into TCW... though they adapted/used it more into data storage that only a Jedi/Sith can access than a copy of a Jedi/Siths mind which was what the EU mostly used it as. That said nothing prevents there useage both ways.

Also there have been some very well written plots involved in the EU with Holocrons (also they've been used in games too (kotor II, the most intelligent Star Wars game ever written), not just books), but yes some hacks used them too as cheap plot devices quite often... one specific one comes to mind right away.

Although I have no love for the EU and don't consider anything other than the films as cannon (Forget all that animated Clone Wars nonsense...) I think Holocrons could be a welcome plot device for future films. I really wish Disney would release some form of info about the coming films so we can get a sense of how much if any, they are altering the universe we have come to love...:)

A Palpatine Holocron would be amazing.

Other than the fact it would render the choosen ones destiny meaningless, likely in George Lucas's eyes anyways, yes I agree it would be amazing. Sadly though the prequals had to have a prophecy which likely means this could never happen though. We'd have to be given a meaning to his destiny in VII that doesnt conflict with Palpatine having a holocron for this to work... could happen but its not very likely.

How about a holocron of a holocron of a holocron?

Lucas changes his mind all the time. The ST will change something about the OT or the PT.

So does the Sith holocron plug into the Jedi holocron and bring balance to the force?

It'd be a different way to impart important plot information to the protagonists than having characters literally come back from the dead to provide infodumps, so I approve of the idea.

Sure you can have them but dont go all insane with them to the point that it becomes obvious you are just using them to bring back dead characters for stupid cameos to make fanboys/general audience squeel.
