I think these are the same people who don't view Stockholm syndrome as a bad thing, because beastly men are supposed to be saved by the love of a nurturing woman and unconditionally nurturing is what God tells women to do or something. Being gay, though, that's just sex in a way that God didn't intend.

Chechnya is still a very messed up police. Ruled by fear.

A decade or so ago, women would be abducted off the street and never seen again.

You know, I'm beginning to suspect totalitarian regimes are bad.

Edit: Like, no offense Ghost, but you're saying Kadyrov's statement makes it worse, the man murders political opponents extrajudicially, runs a police state, and essentially answers only to the Putin administration. He's going to say and do whatever the **** he wants barring out and out assassination, he does not give a damn if his statement on his own systemic purge of homosexuals opts for outright denial.

Ninja'd you by a day Ghost.

To be fair, it probably got lost in all the 'Senate pulling nuclear option' and 'Trump bombs Syria' news.

I agree, persecution of people for their sexuality is horrible...but you have to take this version of the story with a grain of salt. After all, its from a tabloid. Their job is to create drama and sensationalize things. The regular newspapers take a whole different take on this event.

According to "The Guardian" over 100 suspected gay men have been rounded up and detained. 3 were killed in the process. Absolutely horrible. You see absolutely no mention of concentration camps in any of these stories. The only place you see that is in tabloids, and you just can't rely on them for anything like the truth.

    Huffington Post's story

    Washington Post

    New York Times

What's the over under on the US not doing anything about the concentration camps in Chechnya even though they have stated publicly that things like that should be stopped right away?

Pray tell, what should "we" have done? Betrayed an ally whose people had suffered more than anyone else? Take on a battle-hardened Red Army that often outnumbered all Western armies combined? Fight east of Germany across the vastness of Eastern Europe? Attempt to match the USSR's huge and nigh-indestrutible (because they moved it) industrial capacity? Used the U.S.'s newfound atomic bomb to rain nuclear hellfire onto millions of innocent civilians? Or maybe just conventional bombs? Should we have plunged a continent full of people exhausted by nearly six years of war into another cataclysmic conflict, adding to the 80 or so million dead?

I am interested in your ideas.

Not to mention the probable lack of appetite for more war among the Western powers, especially against an ally.

Is the Daily Mail now considered a reliable source of news? I have been under the impression that it isn't reputable.

Not saying this story isn't true, because something awful happening in Chechnya doesn't surprise me.

Sent from Hell--depending on whether or not it exists.
