Problem is (unless there's a factor I don't know about re. lightsabers) one needs mass in the blade to be able to cut. The further toward the tip of the blade the better.

 

Right, which is why I said:

You'd never care about that mass when you're talking the scale of people swinging things. It'd literally disappear in measurement error. (Also claiming a photon has mass is significantly more controversial than you seem to think it is, as experimental research on that front tends to be "Well, if it's nonzero it's got to be less than [stupid small number]." Electrons are on an MeV scale, so it's not nearly as ludicrously small, but still really small relatively speaking.)

Anyway, we've already given this way more thought than Lucas ever did, it doesn't matter.

 

Ugh, reminds me when I breezed through a Mass Effect-centric forum once and stumbled into a topic involving something about the biological structure of Tali and other Quarians where the poster was pulling out charts and chemical formulas and everything to disprove something.

The reason I don't clearly remember what the topic was was that I didn't care and couldn't fathom drawing up the attention span to read all of it. The only thing I learned from it was the startling amount of time and effort that someone can waste on a fictional universe to prove.........what, exactly? That things in a fictional universe are fictional

Silver lining: I never got into an argument concerning fictional vs real life things ever again.

 

Good lord, can you even imagine a world where no one got into fights about the realism of fictional things?
