PT How did Darth Sidious choose the name "Darth Vader"? ... and the meaning of Sith names

Conversely, it is like the "light" side naming Luke and Leia in the birth scene. And it is rather "light", isn't it, the way Padme says them? This is not a bash of the acting; just an observation that the er, delivery, is considerably less drawn-out. It does feel, to me, that Padme has one part of her body in the physical realm, and another "up in the clouds", so to speak. Just as Sidious dips into the Dark Side with every smug fibre of his being, so the light is already shining back, glaring at him. An allusion to this is made at the beginning of the film, when the light from the star that bathes Coruscant momentarily blinds the viewer in the opening shot. Sidious, that Dark Side mutha, is going down.

 

As far as Count Doo-Doo is concerned, did he HONESTLY think his Sith name would be an upgrade?

Yes, great comparisons regarding the light side naming of Luke and Leia by Padme vs. Sidious' dark side naming of Vader. I think Sidious' doing so is intentional, really relying on the dark side for the name, while of course Padme's "use" of the light side would be unintentional... but the opposing similarities are pretty profound.

 

Oh, Count Dookie/DooDu, how could I forget? I don't think about Star Wars very often these days, and it's showing.
