Aside from the pain of having both hands cutoff, what would you imagine went through his mind? Regret, sorrow, vengenance?

What would make of the look on his face?

I liked Dooku, it's too bad he was a villan though. He had the perfect charisma and sound for a wise hero. I think Dooku felt a little bit of regret for leaving the order at that point. I haven't read the book yet, I plan on doing once I get a break from classes.

One word: Betrayed. He thought his master was going to step in, and give him immunity; but he was wrong. Because in the end, it was just a test; to test Anakin's anger.

Probably realizing that he has just been had!

That he was no different from anyone else -- that he was a pawn of Sidious and his usefullness had just expired.

His first thought was "Damn, I just bought new gloves!"

If you read Dark Rendezvous, Dooku actually realizes that Sidious will betray him at some point. Which makes his death in ROTS all the more sad and ironic.

Sidious knew Maul would eventually betray him. Tyranus knew Sidious would eventually betray him. Sidious knew Vader would eventually betray him. Just another day in the life of a Sith.

One phrase: Treachery is the way of the Sith.

Revenge of the Sith's novelization makes it very clear.

Enough to give someone an ulcer.

So it was the Sith who started the slogan:

    "Trust no one!"

Onscreen Sidious describes how he killed his master in his sleep. I think that pretty much sums up the whole organization, not just Sidious.

Dooku had actually fantasized about "retiring" after the war.

But he was only momentarily suprised by Sidious' betrayal.
He knew he was testing Anakin as a future apprentice.
He resigned himself to his fate.

that example only shows sidious betraying as i said.

i KNOW that all the sith betray i was being somehow sarcastic

but if we go for what we say sidious betrayed more people than any other character anakin included,i was just pointing out that litle detail

Moreover, Dooku wasn't a true Sith in the traditional sense. Yes he was a Sith in name, but he behaved otherwise.

Assassinating his master may have been against his own code of honour. Likewise, he may have been suprised by Palpatine's duplicity in that he may have felt "Why not just let me retire?"

The way Dooku's death is described in the novel, the way he is basically revealed to be a tool for so many years and how little his life has come to mean, is one of those things I wish could have been elaborated on in the film. The ROTS novel is one of the best written books I have ever read, and I'm not finished with it yet having just gotten it the other day.

i have to disagree count.i highly doubt that by ROTS dooku still had a "code of honor".he was the more calmed of all the sith we see onscreen but i doubt that in nature(betrayal, lust for power, etc) he was any different

Like others have said, he feels betrayed more than anything. I don?t think he feared the situation. Just before he died he realized that he was nothing more than a pawn in Sidious? galactic game of chess, therefore he accepted what was about to happen to him.

Count Dooku - the gentleman Sith!

How could he have been so duped by Sidious?

Dooku still had his personal code, it is best exhibited by his stubborn persistance in offering enemies the choice of backing down instead of attacking them first thing.

when did he offer that ?? because his statement in ROTS of asking anakin and obi wan their sabers was clearly sarcastic

Well, Dooku was arrogant as well.

Must be a characteristic of the Sith.

Ole Pruneface sure was surprised as well when Vader threw him down that shaft.

Sarcastic yes, but still an offer. As was "now back down." I seriously doubt he believed that they would surrender but he has the manners to at least ask.

Dooku was a smoothie. I'm sure you've seen the deleted scene from AOTC where he tries to convince Padme to join their cause.

Love to see the deleted scenes of the lightsaber duel between Anakin and Dooku in AOTC.
Perhaps someday in the enhanced, newly mastered, added scenes 12th reissue.
