A personal favorite, though short lived, character of mine, is the storm trooper TK-421. How did GL come up with this?

Because TK-421 was the partner of TK-422 (the one whose armor Han stole).

Yeah, it was THX-1138. Its a little thinkg he puts in all the Star Wars movies. I forget exactly what it was, something about GL's first movie or something...?

    THX-1138 was GL's first movie.

THX apparently also stands for Tomlinson Holman's eXperiment. Tomlinson was the guy GL hired to create the THX standard.

I know that this is off topic, but how do you think Luke knew what the unit number on the pmc was?

I'm guessing there was a label right on the hatch itself.

Every time I watch that scene I look for it. It just doesn't make any sense.

Luke didn't know. The Imp in the red room up there called him, using the trooper's number, Luke had the outfit from. And it was probably a private channel or something. Or Luke knew 421 and 422 were the only ones that weren't at their posts.

Since THX 1138 was the number in the book, did that mean Lucas was originally going to use it in the film, then decided to change it fearing it might be to obvious? (And instead just used 1138 as a cell block number.)

TK 421 comes from Gary Kurtz's daughter's birthday, seriously - it's Tiffany Kurtz's birthday : 21st April, she played one of the Jawas in ANH.

What I wanna know is how did Luke know where the Imperial officer was when he said "TK-421 why aren't you at your post?". He looked right up at the window the officer was looking out of.

i always thought that since they were in the storm troopers suits, they had a radio in the helmet, and he could actually hear him. or maybe when the falcon docked he noticed where the office was. just a couple ideas to talk about

right... luke could hear the officer through the helmet radio, but didnt want to respond because his voice (and lack of knowledge)might give him away, so he pretended that his transmitter wasnt working
