You know, Ender, Ian Fleming believed the Windsor knot was the sign of a cad....

Full Windsor, because it is important to honour the reigning house of the British Empire in one's dress.

Well he had Bond hold that view, yes.

However, he also had Bond wearing a four-in-hand knot, which is asymmetrical; and a knitted tie. Which is... something. I'm undecided on them.

Plus, Connery had a windsor knot and it looked fine:

Yes, but Connery rocks anything he wears:

    ...all right, almost anything.

Tradition is an interesting way to create a cover for ties and the whole auto-erotic asphyxiation thing you've got going with em.

I hate wearing ties with a vengeance and my tie is always the first thing that comes after a business meeting or court attendance. I don't wear a tie in the office. When forced to wear a tie, I knot my tie depending on the tie in question and the collar of the shirt I'm wearing. Usually a full windsor or half windsor. I hate skinny ties and skinny little shoe lace knots but I also think the fist size knots preferred by TV presenters and sports people also look ridiculous.

This poll isn't giving me enough information to make a decision. What are the circumstances?

    Day to day business wear.

LoH - have you appeared in front of most of the judges in the state, sometimes as a lawyer?

Quick point that criminal jurisdictions don't count, because until very recently in most Australian states lawyers got to rock a wig and black robes in those courts. There's nothing that looks more like Batman in the current world than a fully-kitted-out QC running to get to a court in time, black robes billowing out behind him.

In that case four in hand. I don't have many spread collars, and I probably wouldn't wear them day to day if I did.

Ties are a tool your opponents can use against you in battle. You would be foolish to wear one.

Day to day business, no. Special events, yes.

    Windsor or half windsor.

I'm sorry, your impression of the laughable tough-guy right wring brigade is too generic for me to tie it to one person.
