You pronounce it "zeck", I believe. Just like how it looks, really.

I would agree with Kudzu. It doesn't make much sense to me for it to be anything else, not with the double 'K'.

    I'd pronounce it "zeck".

I admit to being a Zee-k (as in EEEEK!) pronouncer :p

I can't help it, to me Zeh-ck sounds too much like Yeck!

Zee-k? That sounds like farmer boy. [face_laugh]

I didn't even know it was in question. Zekk = Zeh'k

Of course as the owner of a four-lettered last name, I know it's entirely possible for people to slaughter something as simple as that. ;)

I've always said it as "Zeck" because I figured you needed more than one vowel in the word to produce the long vowel sound.

Don't even get me started on last names. ;) Now that I'm married, people won't even TRY to pronounce my new last name.

I'm with FelsGoddess, that's the way I always said it, but then I read a book that had a character called 'Zeke' and I was like "Waaaaiiiiittttt....." :D

Thanks 4 everyone's help! I will now change this into a Centre where everyone can ask about mis-pronounced words. :D Enjoy!

I saw the name in the book, but didn't make the connection until my friend was looking at baby names. She read off some from a list and said Zeke. Later that day, I was reading, um, well I really don't remember which book, but he was in it. I saw the name and the lightbulb turned on.

Hey, how about the pronounciation of Jacen? I've always said it like Jason, but one of my friends says it "Jah-ken." How would you tackle it?

That one has to be pronounced like "Jason". There were Hebrew variants spelled "Jacen"...unless you're assuming entire new general rules of pronounciation, I don't think it would be "Jah-ken".

"Zekk" sounds a bit like the German name of a parasite, the "Zecke". Actually, German pronounciation of the letter "z" is different from Englisch. The Englisch "z" sounds for German ears rather like a German "s", only softer. The German "z" instead sounds like a "ts" sound. So a German only reading the translations and not knowing anything about the English language would pronounce it "Tsekk".
