ST How is Luke’s exile any worse than Yoda or Obi-Wan stopping the Empire’s rise on the way up?

I could be seen as the opposite, if Yoda and Obi-Wan hadn't gone into exile they'd be dead by the time we get to ANH. Luke was never in any danger, all he had to do was put right his mistakes.

Yoda tried stopping the Emperor and failed. Obi-Wan tried stopping Anakin and couldn't bring himself to kill him.

Those are strong cases for these two Jedi Masters to retreat, be patient, grow in their own understanding of the Force, and wait for Anakin's children to grow up and hope to use them to turn their father from the dark side or kill him if not.

Luke on the other hand never directly tried to turn Ben's path away from the dark (bungling the whole mind-reading thing in the hut by igniting his saber and freaking Ben out) and he never sought out and confronted Kylo once he turned like Obi-Wan did tracking Anakin down on Mustafar. Instead, Luke just gave up without trying and without a hope for someone coming along in the future to train and beat Kylo in his place. He just retreated sad, and content with the end of the Jedi and content to die knowing that Kylo and Snoke were ruling the galaxy with the dark side.

So yeah, very different circumstances. And so sad for the character of Luke.
