how long did the empire last?

How long did the empire last until they finaly just gave up and surrendered?

 

As far as I know, the Imperial Remanent is still going, but the war between the New Republic and the Empire ended 19 years after ANH. However I'm not sure when the Empire began.

The NR came out ahead, but tecnaically no one really won. The NR suceded in ruling most of the galaxy, and the empire survived... and it wasn't a surrender, it was a peace treaty....

 

So they basicly just lived together, did the empire still rule what they hade with an iron fist or did they give the people rights ext?

 

The Empire began 20 years before ANH. Lasted together for 25 years and existed as splintered groups for 15 years and exists now as the Imperial Remnant for the last 10+ years. All in all, the Empire has lived for 50+ years.

So they basicly just lived together

They co-exist with each other... for now.

I believe the Imperial Remnant has become lenient in some civil rights and political freedom areas, but not much.

Warlords. Imperial officers who went their own way or tried to claim to be the leader of the Empire, etc. And Thrawn never really reunited the Empire completely. That would be the Reborn Emperor's doing.

Uh.... major events kinda...

0-5 ABE (After Battle of Endor): Many Grand Admirals are hunted down and killed or they end up killing each other as they try to grab power. Rogue and Wraith Squadron is responsible for the deaths of many warlords including Warlord Zsinj. Director Ysanne Isard takes control of the Empire for a while but is eventually defeated by the Rogues.

5 ABE: Thrawn comes back, almost succeeds in destroying the NR before he's betrayed by his bodyguard.

5.5 ABE: Palpatine returns in a clone body and unleashes the might of the Empire from the Deep Core upon the unsuspecting New Republic. Forces the NR to reform as the Rebel Alliance again. Seduces Skywalker to the Darkside and is destroyed twice; once by his own Force Storm and the last time by a shot in the back by Han Solo. His spirit is destroyed by Jedi Brann[sp?]

6 ABE: Admiral Daala emerges from the Maw Installation. Chases after the stolen Sun Crusher and tries to take on the New Republic. Has nice plans, but fails to carry them out properly or Kyp Durron ruins any chance she has in carrying them out at all.

now to fuzzy part...

6-10 ABE: Fuzzy stuff. Black Fleet Crisis, the Yevethia take over the Imperial Black Sword Fleet in the Deep Core. Enslaves Imperials, attacks the NR. Tortures Han Solo. Gets defeated by the NR. Black Fleet either went boom or taken back by the enslaved Imperials. Dont remember which, just that the slaves did something.

10 ABE: Moff Disra and Major Tierce conspiry to destroy the NR by having a con artist pose as Thrawn. They attempt to turn the NR against the Bothans over the Caamas Incident. Their plot is revealed by Karrde and Pellaeon. Meanwhile, Mara and Luke discover the Hand of Thrawn. You know the rest. Treaty is signed with the New Republic ending hostilities.

15 ABE: Yuzzies invade. Pellaeon helps where and when he can but then pulls back to protect the Remnant when they are cut off from the Republic.

18-20 ABE: Yuzzies try to take the Imperial Remnant. Succeed in taking Bastion but are defeated at Yaga Minor.

 

I suppose it could just be said that they both went their seperate ways.

Although the New Republic kinda won.

 

NR won as they force the IR too seek a peaceful conclusion to the war, put the Remmnant in such a position where fighting was no longer an option.

also, Dalaa 8-9 years after R0TJ kills off all the Imperial Warlords and re-unites the Empire under her command, she leads quite a stunning camapign of lightning strikes against NR Shipyards and planets with a fleet of Victory II Destroyers, however this s offset by her disastrous attack on the Jedi Academy at Yavin 4 where she loses the Executor Class Ship, 'Knight Hammer' and i believe numerous Victory Star Destroyers.

After this debacle, she hands over command to vice Admiral Pellaleon (Admiral now), he (fuzzy here) appears tp lead an orderly withdrawl of Imperial forces from the deep core to the outer rim near the unknown regions over the next few years, forming what became known as the Imperial Remmnant from his veritable backwater.

Oh and in the black fleet crisis the Imps regain control of the ships from the Yevetha and Hyper jump into mystery, think the going concensus is that the Imp ships mainly ended up joining the Remmnant over a period of time.
