    Something that struck me today.

The concept of a "Dark Side" doesn't necessarily imply bilateral symmetry...

Sure, there's a "Force", and it has a "Dark Side"...

But what if the "Dark Side" is simply an... incompleteness?

I'm not sure I can explain this terribly well, but... perhaps it's not anything inherrent in the Dark Side that's the problem with it, it's the absence of something else...

    Happy Easter

In my essay I summarize it best I think

"The Force has no Light or Dark, it just is. This doesn't mean that people cannot describe aspects of the Force that are dark and light. These definitions will also change."

    Let's see,

Sum of Interior Angles = 180(n-2)

That should get you started. :p

The Force doesn't have sides. It's just the Force. The human (or alien) mind gives it Light and Dark aspects.

If the Jedi's dualistic view of the Force can be represented by colors, with black equaling the "Darkside" and white equaling the (very rarely if ever referenced) "Lightside" then wouldn't the "lightside" aspect of the Force be the one with an "absence of something else" or an "incompleteness"?

Or...imagine a man or a woman is a chalice. The Jedi fill the cup up 1/4 full, while the Sith keep filling up a cup even after the contents spill over the top.

    Balance man, balance...

    [face_peace] :D [face_monkey]

Half of what I say is meaningless...but I'll say it just to reach you, Julia.

I think the Force is like a pizza. I base this on absolutely nothing.

There is deffinetly a light and dark side. To best express what I am trying to say, here is a quote from Valentino:

"the dark side isn't inherently evil, it just happens to pay a high price on the user, and it feeds on darker aspects of life, while causing death(death is a natural part of life). Too much tapping into it, cuts someone off from being able to use the lightside polarity of the force (as seen in tales of the Jedi). It also tends to cause their bodies to decay."

"Also the power the darkside gives is also quite addictive, causing someone who uses it to want to use it more. Its a whole lot easier for someone that uses it once, to use it more and more, as they get a taste for it, and more likely to use it indiscriminately. If a person uses it enough, they are then cut off from the ability to use the lightside."

There is one great description for the Force, and a very usefull household item thay may be uses in case of terrorist attack:

"It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the univers together."

The Force is like me, it has a Straight Side and a Curious Side. I think we all know which side Yareal Poof used....

Of course the Force has a backside. God, I love tapping the Force. *taps it*

"Come to the Purple Side of the Force, Luke!"

But what about our concepts of the dark side?

"Master Windu, I fear that Anakin is descending into the bleak blackness of the dark side."

"Why's everything gotta be BLACK witchu?"

If it's canon that there is a light side and a dark side, then apparently the Force is racist. Call the ACLU, everybody! We're going to sue the Force!

I suppose techincally, there are two sides to the force. The light embodies creation, healing and freedom, while the dark embodies destruction, death and oppresiveness. There is, however, a third 'side' - Grey. There's only really a few jedi who walk this path, as it requires something of a rare background and mindset. It's a buffer - where blind kindness and wanton destruction are both equally wrong.

As far as I know, only 3 "jedi" have followed this path - Kyle Katarn, Jolee Bindo and Kreia.

I was going to start a thread about the Force, but since there seems to be a gazillion of these at the moment, I will add my thoughts here:

I think that there are actually FOUR sides to the Force -

    A) Unifying Force
    B) Living Force
    C) Light Side
    D) Dark Side

They are obviously not mutually exclusive. A & B have always been associated with C, however, what about D?
