?So, you two boys have been doing well?? Luke asked half-heartedly, trying to make conversation.

?Oh yeah, Uncle Luke, real peachy,? Jacen said sarcastically. Luke winced. Jacen had been hurt very badly by Danni?s death.

Anakin obviously noticed his brother?s pain and changed the subject. ?Uncle Luke, we?re almost done with dessert. Will you please tell us what?s going on??

Luke sighed. He knew that his nephews wouldn?t be distracted by the ?I just wanted to catch up with you? approach. He exchanged a look with Mara. She nodded. They needed to know.

Luke steeled himself for their reactions. ?Your parents called me yesterday,? he said slowly. ?You know that they?ve been fighting a lot ever since Chewbacca died.?

Luke felt a wave of pain in the Force from Anakin. The young man had never fully stopped blaming himself for the Wookie?s death. Now was not the time to get into that, however.

He continued, ?They?ve decided to get a divorce.?

There was absolute silence for a minute. Luke felt shock and hurt from both his nephews. Before he could say anything, Jacen stood up and walked out without a word.

?Jacen,? Luke called, but Mara put a hand on his arm.

?No, let him go. This is a shock for him, and on top of Danni?s death it?s probably a lot to deal with. Let him be alone.?

Luke nodded and turned to Anakin. ?Would you like to talk?? he asked gently.

Anakin shook his head, a tear falling own his face. ?Mom and Dad are getting a divorce?? he said in a child-like voice that made Luke remember the time when Anakin had been young and innocent. That had been a very long time ago.

Luke nodded. ?I?m afraid so. It shocked Mara and I as well.?

?What about Jaina??

Mara grimaced. ?She took it pretty badly. She?s staying with Wedge.?

Anakin nodded and wiped a tear from his cheek. ?I?d like to be alone too, if you don?t mind.?

Luke nodded. ?Of course, Anakin. Take as much time as you need.?

Anakin nodded again. ?Thanks for dinner,? he said, walking slowly from the room and shutting the door behind him.

Luke put his head in his hands and felt Mara rub his back gently. ?You did a good job, Luke. There was no good way to say it. Of course they?ll take it hard. Their parents are getting a divorce.?

Luke sighed. ?I feel like I fail them.?

?You did no such thing. They just need some time to let it sink in.?

Luke sighed. ?At least they took it better than their sister did.?

Mara frowned and leaned back. ?I?m worried about Jaina.?

Luke looked up and met her eyes. ?So am I.?
